Bugger me. Detailed. I'm not a huge fan of the ST ships, but that is impressive.

My god that ship never ceases to be so beautiful.

Sorry, but that could possibly be the finest starship I've ever seen. Ever.

Uh? What standard? That´s the Roger Young. If it was an original model, then maybe.
The thing is, most models here are made with FS in mind, wich means that uber detailed ships like that could never be used. So why would anyone go the extra length to detail a model that he/she knows could not use on anything, and would just sit and colect dust on some HDD?
Get FS up to speed poly capacity wise, and i´m sure many models that would put that one to shame will appear. Untill then, we can´t hardly expect anyone to present such a detailed work while keeping it under FS poly standards. It´s just not possible.

As for the model itself, the nose greebling is practically useless. It´s only noticeble if you zoom in on the nose. Bring the camera back, and the detail vanishes. And this is without textures. Imagine it with textures... That detail could have been easelly done with bump-mapping, and those precious polys could be better spent elsewhere.
Still, the Roger Young is one of the best looking ships ever to come out of sci-fi. It´s my all time favourite.
:)
No Freespace 3 ?!? Oh, bugger...

in case you haven't noticed,  alot of uber high poly models have been made recently for renders.

That's not the Roger Young. It's part of a three ST ship family made and one of them is posted on Turbo Squid (me and someone else here has it and is converting it it seems).  The RY and one other ship are posted on Light Wave Group...

I take it you've never used any sort of rendering package. Example. Not everyone here does things specifically for FS.

easy enough lol.

Copying pre-made objects point by point is really easy lol.

I do it at least once a month with the modern military equipment/ships I make for various people/contracts.

Id rather us have a low poly ship model/texture contest:)

Used to be one (er, one as it happened once here, about 3 years ago).

I tried a couple of times to get it restarted, but never came to fruition.

No, it´s the Roger Young, every hull plate, nut and bolt of it.

Offhand, Roger Young has at the very least a different rear-end (Quad setup).

Wonder if Darkshears site is still up somewhere......

EDIT;

I can't find a proper movie shot at the mo, natch.

Interesting to think how little computer graphics were used in comparison to what you'd expect.....

Even if the RY has a diferent engine setting, both ships share too many similarities to call the ****ty Death an original. At best, it´s a MKII of the RY.

RY
Yamamoto
Volcano
Notice how they're all very similar, but different enough to be different ships? Yeah.
