  • I'm a magic man, I've got magic hands.
I want it for Christmas.

Who all plays here? I'm convinced I want it at least, but somethings have me concerned, such as the lack of significant crafting-ness within the game, as well as the lack of character customization and reported faction irrelevancy aside from who you want to play as and who you want to kill.

$15 a month is a lot for something that isn't perfect.

World of Warcraft is best MMORPG ever, maybe it's not perfect but it's still so awesome experience.

I'am playing it.

I'm not getting it. I want to, but I a) don't have any money, and b) my parents aren't going to pay monthly fees for any game (except City of Heroes, which my dad can't seem to STOP playing).

Why is it that almost every thread that asks whether or not a game is good, and if someone plays it, HIG pops up and says "It's good, play I it."

BTW, I think he runs all his stuff through a web translator :D

EDIT: And I heard it was OK, not that great but nothing overtly bad about it.

  • From the ashes...
My Neighbour's got it, and he spared a few moments for me to have a little go.
The immensity and size of the world is just insane, and the game is pretty bloody awsome.

It would help if your a Warcraft fan or atleast fantasy fan, but it is very addictive none-the-less. My neighbour played it two days straight once he got it and got upto level 11.
I wouldn't mind getting it myself, but I really have other things to pay for first...

Oh, don't mistake my aprehension as a distaste or ignorance of Warcraft. I love Warcraft just as much as the next person.

Hmm, I've been kinda put off from MMORPG's. I played Star Wars Galaxies for a year, beta'd the expansion, and in the end was dissapointed. Paing 15 bucks a month isn't really worth it. But dunno about WOW. Its just that... 15 a month. Thats alot. For playing it a year, you could buy an x-box. Or something.
I have returned... Again...

KT- you into past mmorpgs?  WOW is a bit different, it fills a distinct niche in genre that I think everyone that played EQ or whatever has been waiting for.

EQ was a serious grind: kill things, lvl up, kill bigger things, repeat.  It was focused on grouping with other players and working together. WoW is about exploring the world, doing as many different things as possible.  It seems to have been designed specifically to remove the grind part.  It's basically taken the mmorpg formula and simpled it down.  Once in a while I miss the class interaction from games like EQ where you needed to balance your groups to win, but WOW makes up for it in other ways, like having a huge world to explore and not having to devote ungodly amounts of time to succeed.

I'ts not a serious, in depth game.  Quests are usually simple, playing your class well doesnt take a lot of practice- though certain ones like the rogue are very customizable, other basic ones like the mage will be mostly the same for everyone.  If you're into other mmorpg, this will either feel like a vacation and be a blast or be far too simple and bore you silly.  If you're into more hardcore rpg's like Morrowind, skip this.  If you're into complex interaction with other people, also skip this- you'll do a lot alone or in small groups until very late in the game as quests gradually get harder.  If you're really into the Warcraft story and world, this will be great.

In short, know what you're getting into and enjoy the games strengths and you'll have a blast, aim too high and you're going to miss.

It looks fun eventhough I never played Warcraft.

$15 is a ripoff unless you play it like 24/7.
I finally destoryed the Shivan armada and all I got was this lousy T shirt.

$15=less than two movie tickets, or about 4 hours entertainment.  Not bad for a full month.  Assuming you actually enjoy the game of course.

... good advice...

The only MMO I've played before has been Galaxies, and I only consider it half MMOing because I didn't pay for it the year I played. Galaxies was fun, but mostly because the world had a lot of thigs you could do that wasn't grinding. The grinding in Galaxies sucked ass. In the year and a half I played, I never got above a few levels of Pistoleer. While I was kind of angry, there were so many other things to do, like crafting, player housing, selling things, IDing, the interaction between players was nice too... there was even a bit of exploring to be done.

The only reason I'm a little worried about WoW is that I'll most likely be paying for it somehow, and it lacks the qualities that I came to fall back on within Galaxies. However, from what you've said, it seems that WoW takes away all the crapiness from Galaxies battlingness and adds places to explore, which rocks, as that's what I really want to do. Sounds like a purchase to me.
