Ben Browder Joins SG-1!
Read about it here: http://www.gateworld.net/news/2004/12/benbrowderjoinsistargatesg.shtml

I think thats really cool.  I think he'd be perfect on the SG-1 set...I think the reason SG-1 is so appealing is the sense of humor the actors and producers seem to have and I think that Farscape shared some of that wacky humor...its done in a different way and I don't want SG-1 to be Farscape (Farscape was good in its own right, just not mixing the two) but I think this can be very good.

I'm still a bit worried about what a 9th season will mean.  I know X-Files sort of had some trouble when they tried to bring in new characters to the regular cast...but to expect actors to do the same thing for 8 or 9 years is impressive.

Still...I'm VERY pleased to see the show continue.  I just finished watching Season 7 on DVD.....what a finale!  I can't wait for the next season!

Wow, thats really really cool! Though I'm not really worried with bringing in new characters to the show. Season 6 was good with that other guy, forgot him now, but he was good. And since sg-1 has such a large cast changing one or two wont be as bad as with X-files when pritty much the MAIN character left and was changed to a new one. Think of Seinfeld without Seinfeld.

But cool, this is the first I heard that theres gonna be a season 9! So sweet!
I have returned... Again...

I've noticed that the Sci-Fi genre does a lot more of 'actor swapping' than most other types of media.. We all remember Chekhov in B5, not to mention Majel Barret/Rodenberry in just about everything :)

It's good news in all, Stargate is a well written series, and at the end of the day, O'Neill is probably the only 'non-replaceable' character in there.

Then I take it you'd be dissappointed to learn that RDA will only guest star in 4 episodes in Season 9. Because that's what's happening.

Nuts. Well, I guess at least he will be making his presence felt, but SG1 won't be SG1 without him imo.

This may be the cast for a spin off series slowly being introduced.....?

Stunaep...I hear they are still negotiating.  I think Richard Dean Anderson is sort of looking to scale himself back.  He has been since Season 6 started...and keeps slowly disappearing a bit more every season.  As long as he's still in there for a decent number of episodes...thats good.  We've got a great cast of characters and we've had entire episodes already without him and I didn't notice too much till I said to myself "hey...where IS O'Niel".

My favorite character for sure...but we've got alot of good ones so if it turns out that he is only in 4 episodes...well I can live with that.

Nope. But I remember Bester appearing in a few Star Trek films and episodes. :D

I guess the sign of a true B5 fan is when Walter Koenig appears on a chat show and you think "Bester!" before you think "Checkov!"

I always felt Teal'c (Yep, that's the bugger, thanks for the spelling Icefire :) ) was better before he lost his symbiont. I think that may have been a mistake, but hopefully the storyline will prove me wrong, it's sci-fi, so if it doesn't work out, they can always find a way to put it back ;)

Kara : LOL Yep, but I'm really really old so I remember Star Trek first ;)

I'm only 3 years younger than you and I grew up watching Star Trek as my dad was a big fan.

Yet I still tend to think Bester first :) I guess the fact that he played Bester more recently helps :)

It may be, but I can certainly confirm that I am not as avid follower of B5 as you are, I haven't even seen the entire series. :nervous:

I must admit, I do tend to think of one of the out-take clips....

This would be EXCELLENT. (Has Atlantis' and Stargate's break between new episodes ended? I really don't know. I haven't been watching Sci-Fi, except for the Peacekeeper Wars. I only saw a little bit of it, and it's the only Farscape I've really wtached, but it was awesome. Damn I wish I'd taped the whole thing...)

Anyway, RDA's inability to be in much of any given episode has really hurt the show. Stargate has been functioning on a very short leash because they haven't been going offworld very much at all. A new character (and maybe some new writers) is exactly what it needs to be revitalized.

Although I wonder if he'll mesh well with the rest of the cast. What I've seen of Farscape seemed to be a lot more fluid and I daresay realistic and less cliche'd than Stargate.

Farscape > SG-1

Still, I am looking forward to this.  I wonder if he'll be playing Chricton with a different name.

But StarGate has also always tried to poke fun at its own cliches...often in full knowledge of the fact that its doing whats been done so many times but with a bit of humor added on.  Again, thats what separates it from being average to excellent (one of the things).

I don't think it necessarily needs new writers...and while I haven't seen Season 8, I know in Season 7 the absence of RDA was not that bad and didn't limit things at all.  I like where Season 7 went...and I can't wait to see Season 8.
