Aha.  So is this "pudding" as in "dessert" or "pudding" as in "gloopy sweet stuff"?

Am I right in getting the impression that British pudding - the meal - encompasses everything from ice cream to fruitcake to crêpe suzette?

It can mean the same thing as "dessert", i.e. the last course of a meal, or it can be a specific thing like a rice pudding, sticky toffee pudding, christmas pudding, etc.

EDIT: In this case, it's a christmas pudding, so it's a thing.
