Well I beg to differ

I run win 2k also, and I have to say I Love it, since it is based on the NT technology it is much more stable and much faster.
Which is also one problem you might be having. Since it is based on NT, if you have no win2k drivers, you have to install the NT drivers for your hardware

If you install the win 9x drivers...they won't work

BTW I also have the rive 128/128zx, with a monster 3d2 voodoo 2 ga

SO I know how you are feeling, I purchesed win2k when it was first released, and there weren't even nt drivers for the directx and open gl sides of those cards, so i couldn't run anything either.
The trick is to find the NT drivers, which is still a bit buggy...But I did find Nvidia drivers for my NVidia card. which work great, and allo wme to play games.
Also, this is the buggy part,I found some beta NT Drivers for my voodoo 2 chipset.
Though there was never an NT released version. One problem is, it doesn't show up in your device manager, so I can't remember what drivers they were. But if I remember correctly, I started my search at diamondmm.com ...the people who made the monster cards?
and after tooling around for awhile I did stumble across the NT drivers, which work fine for me, I play all kinds of games all the time that require the 3-d accaleration

Hope this proves somewhat helpful
