Nexus : The Jupiter Incident...
Been playing this game for a couple of days now, not bad at all!

Sort of like Ground control in a Homeworld-type environment, with a touch of Haegemonia:LOI thrown in for good measure. The graphics are good, though weapon effects are a bit 'weak' compared to the Freespace ones,

Voice acting isn't bad, not as good as Homeworld but far far better than Haegemonia.

So what you have in essence is a game with the tactical accesability of Homeworld, the 'You get what you're given' theory of Ground Control, and 'feel' of hegemonia in-game.

Worth a go :)

This is one of the other games I want to buy but not sure as I've heard mixed reviews about how long the campaign is. Just how long do you think it is?

On a side note I also played Haegemonia: LOI, that was a class A game. But the ending movie was a cliffhanger! I hope they make a number 2 so we can find out who that other alien race was.

I'm not too certain how long the Single-player game is, but it is certainly like Ground Control as in they get tactically harder and harder, and armament of your fleet is everything. The battles take a bit too long for my tastes, but since I am quite early in the game (I think, about mission 8) this may change.

It has an advantage of Hegemonia as in you aren't spending half the game chasing an enemy colony ship from one planet to the next just trying to get the level to end ;)

That said, even if it's a short campaign, the game ships with complete mission editor and Ship importing tools, for creating your own Mods.

Nothing compares to vaping an entire opposing fleet's shields with a volley of energy bombs, well, apart from sacrificing your fighters to slip a couple of apocalypse missiles past their defensive flak screens :D

It came out in November in Europe, but it wouldn't have been able to compete in the US at the same time since HL2 and Halo2 were also released in November.  It should be in the US in Feburary

I can't get the demo to run!!!!!!!!!

Is it XP only like so many new games or does absolutely require a pixel shader capable graphics card?

You should check the Skermisher mode at the forum.
http://www.nexusthegame.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1446

With this you should be able to do a few missions of your own.
A word of warning, the 'stealth' missions can be very, very frustrating.

hehe. Fun game, I've played the demo, doing LAN with my bro was fun. Of course, I had done some multi before that, so when he brought all shield ships one time, I loaded up on ebombs and gave his fleet a mighty roastin.

It actually shipped with two executables. One for DX9 cards and one for DX8.

The problem, Thorn, is that my bottom basement budget video card is DX7 only.  I know I need a newer more up to date unit, and it is literally the very first thing on my list of new hardware to get as soon as a get a job.  It's just that I haven't had that kind of loose money for going on 3 years now.  The only reason I have the computer I have now is because my father's a nice guy.

Well it runs on my GF2 MX, fairly well too. I have no idea what generation card the GF2 is.

I'm talking about the demo though...I don't remember seeing 2 different executables.

Mines a GF4MX, which is half-a-step up(or back depending on who you talk to) from a full non-ultra GF2.

Maybe they didnt bother to make a DX8 exe for the demo then. You could try looking through the Nexus forums, someone is bound to have the same problem.

Apparently the demo doesn't run on Windows 98.  Sure was nice of them to publicize that little fact....

I just brought this game. It was love at first sight:D. Alot like Homeworld. My only complaint would be the length of the battles. The enemy ships just WONT DIE!!!

I have a complaint, my ships are about as effective as a couple of thrown eggs.  I started with a cruiser, 3 frigates and a half dozen immobile platforms while the enemy has a dozen destroyers and a frekking battleship.  If I try a stealthier approach I get warned about how close I'm getting to damned minefeild and regardless of which way I go I get attacked.  How am I supposed to win?

All that aside, the game looks great.  The weapons are underwhelming though, nothing has the feel that it's a gigawatt deathbeam.

Keep your ships all grouped together close to the station and let them come to you.
Your ship is carrying long range Artillery, the Battleship is very slow, so send out fighters to distract the AA beams and slip as many missiles through as you can, your partners can keep the other ships busy. The base is loaded with Fighters, which also helps you somewhat.

Be sure to target subsystems, that's vital in this game, you can paralyse a ship long before you destroy it, aim particularly for heavy gun points, and try to keep a unit of fighters in case he tries to do the same to you, though that isn't always possible.

Once your in close combat, select all large ships (Except the Angelwing) and pound the Battleship into submissions, the base and it's fighters will cope.

The next problem you have is the commando transport launched by the Ming, the best trick is to just ignore it, with you all clustered round the Angelwing (which you should have sent to the base at the start) It's highly unlikely to get through, but just in case, send any fighters you have left on 'guard' around it.

Hope that helps. And yes, I agree about the weapons.

Edit : This is a 'fine detail' game, remember you can do stuff whilst paused, particuarly, target certain ships with certain turrets.
