Apologies if this has been covered and/or solved before, but I cannot get OpenGL to work in 32bit, they game loads and plays as it should, but the splash screen that appears on startup is garbled badly and the quality of ingame imagery such as nebulae/glow effects/suns etc. is worse than in 16bit.
I have tried enabling/disabling a multitude of flags in the launcher without success.
I am using:

All 3.6.5 vp (although I tried 3.6 and got the same thing
20041230 exe (have tried 2 previous versions too)
Launcher v5.2

I am running:

AMDXP3000|9800pro w/Omega2597|1024MB RAM

I have no colour trouble with D3D mode but as all ATI users know it is shinemap deprived.

First thing I would recommend is to use the newest Catalyst drivers and see if it's still a problem.  You could make sure that you have the newest Omega (2.5.97a) drivers first though just in case the problem has been fixed.  If neither option helps then let me know.

Ok, I downloaded 2597a, installed it and fired up FS2 and it seems to have fixed all my previous problems with no side effects. :)
My last installation of 2597 was either bad or messy in some way, either way thankyou for the quick responses everyone.

Omega drivers... meh. I installed them, and every time I tried to access the control panel for them, I'd get an Kernel error, BSOD, and 2 seconds later, a hard restart. :doubt:

I wouldn't write them off due to 1 bad experience :)
I have been using them successfully since Catalyst version 3.6 with no problems apart from the rare minor glitches such as you can see above.
However concerning that... I played about a bit more and it seems that the driver installation or files may have not been at fault. The problem was actually the setting called "AI"? whilst set on 'high' it causes the problems I described in my first post, but on 'Normal' it is perfectly fine. So anyone running it on high, scale it down a notch. I am not even sure what that setting does anyway.

I'm using Omegas these days, but not that long ago, I was still using the ATI cats.  Unfortunately, since the 4.8s, the drivers have been unstable in default mode, so I had to make a few minor setting changes as soon as windows loaded, before my screen became corrupted.  Unfortunately, when ATI introduced their catalyst control center, said addition refused to load for me.  I wasn't too concerned, as the features I needed were still part of the standard interface, but when the 4.12s came out, ALL advanced conrols were moved to the CCC, which still refused to load.  I managed to find a way to get windows to opperate with passable stability in default mode, enough to email ATI.  I first got their automated reply system, with instructions on what info to send them to better diagnose my problem.  Unfortunately, then must have not even skimmed my email, because they replied that what I needed was .NET v1.1, which I told them i DID have in my email... and this is the message that was said to have been sent by an actual tech guy.  After that, I sent them back an email questioning their compotence and switched to Omegas, which solved my issues.  ATI Cats no more!
