id call it an attack fighter. like an a-10. of course if i designed it id give it a couple oversized gatling guns instead of beam cannons.:D

What beam cannons are those that everyone keeps talking about?? I don´t remember fitting it with any beam cannons...  Must have happened during one of my blackouts.

I'd guess they're talking about the engine "intakes", but I wouldn't put beam cannons there.

I definitively like it but I think that the textures are a bit simplistic, compared to the mesh. I'm talking about the plating obviously

I think the textures work, but I'm worried the polycount will be somewhat ludicrous.......

Definitely Pre-FS1 in my view, but it is not GTA.  It looks a little to bodged together (no offense Swamp) to be military issue, but rather a pirate or merc ship, which is a cross between an assault fighter and a light bomber.  I've heard speculation/discussion that early encounters between Vasudans and Terrans was actually through merchants and traders rather than military or diplomatic expeditions.  These craft would seem to date to that era of a less regulated trade environment when the GTA had yet to expand and provide protection for civil traffic from these Pirates.  Either the pirates or the Mercs that fight them would use these craft... though I'm leaning towards the pirates, since Mercs are mostly escort and wouldn't need bomber-type craft.

As is, with cockpit, pipes, gatling guns and all that, it stands at a bit over 3000. I don´t think it´s a ludicrous count. And i havent even optimized the geometry yet, so i might get it under 2500.

And the texture was all done with tile and face select UV Mapping. If anyone wants to give it a try making a custom UV map, be my guest. My know-how only goes so far.

try something in the 200 mm variety, like the ones i have on the maelstrom.. when bob's animation code supports gatling turrets im gonna make a destroyer with a pair of 2000mm dual gatling turrets :D

people fail to understand how devistating gatling guns can be. sure they eat up ammo like crazy but they can seriously chew up armor plate. ammo is usually high exploseve u-238, usually solid u-238 which just blow up on the surface or a u-238 shape charge (api) which directs the explosive force right through armor plating ignighting both flesh and fuel.  :D.

The textures work well (make it look all cool and stuff) but 2500 polies is too much for a fighter.

(you will want to LOD it, and you are useing _one_ texture (exept from the cockpit glass of course))

Like bobs said, balls.  I've been making 3-4000 poly fighters lately.

well, I still think that it'd be better with some plating lines in the textures, just to breake the wider flat surfaces.

btw guys what's the pcount of your cockpits usually? cuz I have to decide if to add one to an aw which is already over 2k triangles

The big dorsal thing is too thick, so it looks like a bridge and conn tower.
