I think the title says all:
What do you think of this feature? What do you like or dislike in it?

[EDIT] Urgh, could any of you Admins/moderators fix my typing mistake from Unoffical to Unofficial?

It's useful, allows you to concentrate more on the mission and less on reading the messages that fly by. Though the voices do get annoying sometimes, they tend to mispronounce a few words.

It's a nice touch, but not anything groundbraking.

BTW can anyone point me to a few new voices for the simulated speech?

I was tempted to choose "Useful feature", but I chose It's nothing special, as the voices availabe (even the additional ones) don't help ingame and are quite difficult (for me) to understand (but it has the good side Axem indicated)

If they could be made to talk faster, they'd be really useful for in-game, so I don't have to coninually pause and read the text.

If they could use different voices for different wingmen,  and they weren't so shrilly and ignorant (pronouncing Vasudans wrong all the time) then maybe they'd be useful. As it is, I cannot find a category in the vote that I like.

With the standard voices the feature is absolutely useless, but if you happen to own the AT&T Natural Voice Engine it's one of the best features the SCP has.

Seriously, I would never want to turn it off again. :D

I like it neither. That maybe because we have so many voices of ourself included, and the sound of the voice is way to robotic and monoton (of course, there will be no computer the next 30 years who will put emotions in his speech :) ).

Glad to hear that it is possible to turn off, but where ??? I didn't found it in the launcher.

9 out of 10 voices in my head always tell me that I'm not insane. The 10th is only humming the melody of TETRIS.

In the Speech tab, untick (sp?) the 3 boxes ("Use simulated speech in...")

while i find the feature usefull, there needs to be a few minor upgrades:

first off we need a lexicon system, esentially you would have a list of commonly misspoken words, such as gtva (which the engine would try to pronounce as a word). the lexicon would tell the speech engine to say "gee tee vee ay" instead of pronouncing it as a word.

second it would be cool if the engine used different voices for each persona, command and so on. just so its easyer for the player to know who is speaking.

third, the timing seems to be all off. this is most noticeable in briefings when often it will cut to the next screen before finishing reading of the text. speeding up the speach will allow the text to be completely read, however it requires it be made so fast that it is hard to understand.
I can no longer sit back and allow communist infiltration, communist indoctrination, communist subversion, and the international communist conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids.

Mine works for everything BUT ingame messages(which is the exact reason i turned it on, for S:AH and such...)...

And for breifings, its kind of useless because i can't go to the next stage...

In the debreifing, it keeps going if you go to stats, and restarts if you click recomendations... A little buggy there...

Its a good thing to have nonetheless...

I use it all the time in beta testing etc cause otherwise I can miss messages etc.

I tried that AT&T demo and it's pretty cool. Now I just have to find a copy of the full product :D

Hippo. Are you sure it's actually turned on for ingame messages? Also have you actually got any sound samples set for those messages? A lot of people set messages to play that little melodic beep for messages. That worked fine in retail but with the speech turned on it means you hear the beep instead of the synth sound.

If you have a non-english version, it's pretty useless. :(
It just keeps on pronouncing every word english. It's almost impossible ot understand even one word.

But it's useful for mods. So I think I'll vote for 'useful'.
