Does anyone where I can get earlier (offical) versions of Max (I was thinking v4 or 5) 'cos I can't afford the £2500 for v7. New or possibly used would be fine. Can't find anything at Discreet.  

I did a search and they don't mention anything over than v7. There are places to buy earlier versions but I can't remember any of the urls.

Assuming you don't want to liberate it, have you considered GMax? It's basically Max 6 without the renderer - though I suppose if you want it to render and not to model then you might be in a bit of strife.
