Anybody got a good Battle of Endor-ish mission?
That probably isn't a good way to sell your mission, as a 'proper' mission that is of course.

Anybody got a good Battle of Endor-ish mission?
I tried, but I had absolutely no luck in getting  through the whole thing.  Your wingmen die way too quickly, as usual, leaving you to get ripped to shreds by everything. :p The only time I managed to successfully make it to the third part of the mission, the support ship repairing the Koreth was taken out by something or other, meaning that repairs completely stopped.  I didn't realize it, until I saw that all of my bomber wingmen were dead and that there were still two Molochs hanging around that I was powerless to kill.  That round didn't go so well. :p Since the mission is so long, I didn't really feel like replaying it right away, so I'll save it for another time.  As I said, though, I wasn't even able to get the thing to run in the SCP, for whatever reason.

On the other hand, I just finished up playing Dante's Ascension, which, although very challenging, was one of the best campaigns I've ever played.  Very good stuff. :D However, while trying to delete an extra pilot file while playing this campaign, I idiotically managed to delete my main one, completely erasing my completions of both the main campaign and the Port.  Looks like I have some more playing ahead of me. :p

I played it years ago (2002?) and from what I remember it was quite good indeed. I should play it again, really. Same for Derelict and Warzone - haven't played them for at least 2 years....

Oo... since i'm relatively new to the FS modding community i haven't realized how long these campaigns have been around.

i thought the VW Archives died a horrible death.

yes. but their files live on.

i thought the 2nd Great War was the player with the shivans at first. i couldn't get too far in the campaign though because then i started crashing every mission. wtf.

Odd. Try it now. Please not that I make no apologies for the possible noob-ishness of this mission - 'tis very old, and I haven't touched it since I made it... good grief, nearly three years ago... :shaking:

I'll say only one thing - watch out for the beams.... ;)

PRB???

i'm doin' a BOEish campaign...and having troubles because of that...

the mission runs slowly -with all the graphics at minimun- and the player's performance is not much important...damn... i was thinking instead of making a single fight, warp in different waves of warships into the battlefield...

pff. i NEARLY succeeded in making a BOE-ish missions once, (6 Destroyers, 2 Iceni's, 2 Juggernauts, 6 corvettes, 4 cruisers, and a helluva lot of fighters and bombers) but FRED crashed and I couldn't make it again :(

Try Sol: A History. It's got a couple of good missions that satisfy the urge for big battles.

S:AH is good not just for the battles. The storyline... the plot... It's all pretty awesome. My only complaint would be the beamlessness of the early parts, but that's not too bad because then the battles last longer without capships tearing other capships to shreds in seconds, and the player has a more piviotal role that way. It reminded me of FS1, without the fuzzy graphics. :)

well, duh. early in S:AH, the story takes place during FS1. no beams in 2335 ;) of course, no beams does suck. nothing but firing plasma lasers... must take at least an hour :D

It's both bad and good in a way. Bad meaning that there's no spectacular beam-fiesta lightshows, but it's good because you actually have to engage the capships yourself and you can't rely on beam cannons to do all the work for you. I also noticed an overwhelmingly large amount of Fenris/Leviathan cruisers. But all they had back then was cruisers and destroyers so that was to be expected.

It only takes a while if you attack the fighters/bombers first. This is a good FS2 strategy, but I found it ineffective in S:AH. For FS1 style beamless battles, it's better to take out the capships so they aren't pestering you while you rip at the fighters. It's not that they can pester you too much though, cause they don't even have AAA. :D

Worst, most annoying campaign I ever played. How the heck did the GTVA build seven more Colossusus (Collosi? Eh?) in a single year? Lame! And how does a small transport capture a Sathanas juggernaut?

Worst. Campaign. Ever.

But the mass-beam-fests made up for all the stupidity. Even if all you did was watch.

I have this Campaign.. but in Mission 1 i have always a CTD when 5 Shivan Cruisers jump in.

Maybe i should try Retail FS2..

I think from story SGWP2 was bad, i think it's only a Fun-Campaign :D
Shivan here, Shivan there, Shivan everywhere.

My english isn't very well, so sorry for a few mistakes.

I found that a lot of the missions in that campaign crashed. I can't remember if the download was a VP, but a good way around those missions is to play the campaign through the techroom.

There was one cool mission where you took out an entire fleet of Shivans. That was hard, but fun. :)
