I know this is a little out of place since this ENTIRE FORUM is about models, but...

Anyone want a mod where shivans have no shields, all terrans have 100 m/s, can hold every weapon in the GTVA, and, well, souped up ships?

Yes or no. Then i will make one.
To consider the Earth as the only populated world in infinite space is as absurd as to assert that in an entire field of millet, only one grain will grow. - Metrodorus of Chios
I wept. Mysterious forces beyond my ken had reached into my beautiful mission and energized its pilots with inhuman bomb-firing abilities. I could only imagine the GTVA warriors giving a mighty KIAAIIIIIII shout as they worked their triggers, their biceps bulging with sinew after years of Ivan Drago-esque steroid therapy and weight training. - General Battuta

so you're gonna hack some table files and give everything weird stats? am i missing the point of this? what task would be accomplished by making all of those random modifications?

It would probably be more useful (and educational) to go through and document the different values in ships.tbl and what they do.

what will you learn that the rest of the community dosn't already know. The SCP looks at the code and most likely knows what all the values in the game are and do anyway.

Where are you taking this.

The SCP is not God. Just because a coder can go and look up what a variable does doesn't mean that it's not going to cause them some trouble, take up time, or that they even want to do it.

Since Cobra seems interested in modding, I figure, why shouldn't he write up a document on ships.tbl? A list of flags, new SCP variables, or even what retail variables do could be useful to new or old modders. Plus it would give him experience and make him more capable at editing ships.tbl, since if his document is accurate, then he should have an idea of what he wrote and/or be able to refer back to the document if he forgets something.

So, you´ve given up modelling so soon? :wtf:
I think i have your number figured out. You´re one of those guys who starts a million diferent things, and never gets to finish even one, and then jumps ship to other "cool" projects just to have the same thing happen all over again...

Try to stick to one project at a time, and give it your best effort before moving on to other "ideas".

:doubt:

::doubts he will ever finish this one, even if he does start it::

:sigh:
No Freespace 3 ?!? Oh, bugger...

I agree with WMC.
For example, I honestly don't have any idea about what many strings effectively do, but I may need in future to deal with them and rather spending hours in forum searches a document could be useful.

nonsense.

You just need to keep on working and experimenting.  These things take time to get right.
