has anyone read it? i'm curious for people's opinions.

personally, i think it's an okay novel (i'm a bit of a critic, i find it too formulaic when it gets to all the cliffhangers and so on, but that's more a matter of taste than anything else) but misleading. extremely misleading. actually i think all the so-called 'facts' are a load of hallucinogen-induced fantasies.

what, including all that stuff about the sacred feminine? i'm not exactly stupid (went to top high school in the state, doing medicine now) but i had to reread some of those passages a few times to get it. and i still think it's all bull, especially the hieros gamos, i mean, okay the guy gets to achieve gnosis but what about the girl, is she just like an instrument for the guy to do that or what?

I read an article about it in the newspaper, but I never read it.

Apparently some people are taking the book literally.

Read some of it, got bored. Don't like those kind of books ('those kind' as in non-fantasy/sci fi). As far as they go though, it wasn't too bad. Where's the 'it was ok' option?

the option "I read the book, and it's overrated but a good pastime none-the-less" isn't there, so I didn't vote.

The Louvre and Roslyn Chapel are a bit pissed off at that, IIRC.

I'm in the middle of it right now and I'm loving it.

I'm reading the Book of Five Rings atm...
Any fool can pull a trigger...

I thought the first half when it set the story, and established its world was pretty interesting. Nice interpretation.

Then when the chase/treasure hunt started it got pretty repetitive. Every chapter ends with 'And then it struck him. It was so blindingly obvious! He entered the code and the case unlocked!'.

Dun dunnnn DUNNNNNNNN!
Watch out for the Guns! They'll getcha!

The fact that everyone was carrying on about it kinda made me not want to read it. Besides, I hear he's a terrible writer.

Never felt any need to read it.

On a side note, The Book of the Five Rings is quite good.

Complete lack of character development, was its main flaw out of several. Had a few interesting plot twists though I pre-empted the main one. All in all I think it's an ok read, though entirely over-rated and over-sold.
