Yeah, we've been playing with that one. Great for simulating the small guns on fighters and some capships.

Could it be a way to keep multy part turrets from sticking straight up on ships?  Or perhaps it's that Mpart turret kickback I heard some one mention as accualy possable.

A default angle for turrets to rest at would be nice, although for turrets with a big feild of view like those in space it probably wouldnt make as much sense but what the heck, it looks cool.

Actually with the animation code that exists, it shouldn't be too hard, I wouldn't think, to rotate the turret arms into position before starting the mission (could be FREDDED now, but coding it probably wouldn't be too difficult)

Which will look pretty screwy on the second and fourth from the front turrets of the Hecate, since they're rear-facing by default.

If you're doing this, can you make them face forward but with a default  elevation of 10-15˚?  Straight forward will look a bit funny on most ships.

Maybe something like this for forward facing:
+ default rotation 0 ;;(0-360, angle from forward, in degrees)
+ default elevation 10 ;;(0-90, angle from horizontal, in degrees)
