Um, you might want to allow 360 for the elevation, since there are also turrets on the underside of most ships.

Actually I had envisioned underside turrets to work just like they do now; they face backwards and straight down normally.  So to make a forward facing one with a -10 degree elevation with one of those, you'd use the settings

+ default rotation 180
+ default elevation 10

Actually to make the model most convienent to what it's defined as in the actual pof, default elevation should be 0 for straight up/straight down and every point up to 90 adds a degree of rotation from normal.  It's less clean from the table writer's perspective, but it's closer to what we already have.

You could always have it be relative to the normal. That way people understand better.

Allways, with the exception of global setings three-D radar for example.

Hey Goob, if turret defaults is a feature that's actually being considered, you may want to branch the relevant comments into a seperate thread.  Let the jabbering about the you-know-what remain seperate from actual feature requests/discussion.

bob's animation build already supports default turret angles :D

run bob's animations build and make your turret entry ook something like this:

Code: [Select]

$Subsystem: Turret01-base,1,1.0
$Default PBanks: ( "Buckshot" )
$animation=triggered
$type="inital"
+relitive_angle: 90,180,0

for the record, yes, bob doesnt know how to spell relative :D

i used it on the apis and it worked, indeed that new fighter i made is set up to use the animation code, but bob's recent downtime has rendered him incapable of working the bugs out of it. anyway im backing up his code :D

Are you sure? from what  remember, turrets on the top of the ship HAVE to be turned toward the front, and turrets under it HAVE to be turned toward the back ( with the barrel standing up, of course ), otherwise, well, it considers the turret is reversed and the barel will always be upside down, and the front of the turret body will be its back. It's barely noticeable on the normal FS ship turrets coz they're just cubes, but when I was doing the Tau turrets, man it was pretty obvious.

Yeah. Those turrets are inset into depressions in the hull, they're not meant to fire or face forward.

:bump:

Four days left on the extended deadline.  Though so far only one person has taken advantage of the extension.  Maybe I should have stuck to 1/31 after all... :doubt:

Anyway, barring any unforseen problems, 3.6.6 should be released at the same time. :)

Ask them. :p

You were the only one who responded during the extension.  About five people responded in January.
