Anyway, I'm a guy, but I think you seriously need to work on your wardrobe, heh...do you have any T-shirts?

And it would be cool to have a hot or not HLP thread :-D

I cannot imagine spending half a week's pay a month on clothing. As a matter of fact I've never been able to spend almost any money on clothes.  When I was in High School, I had 3 pairs of jeans, the only way I got a new pair was if one of them got worn out.

The reason I have a tie on is because that is culled from a photo that was made for the church directory.

I almost did make this a hot or not.

At this point it would take at least $1000 to update/expand my wardrobe and I can barely keep food in the pantry.  Also, what's the point of having a ton of clothes that you'll never wear?  In a few days/weeks I intend to have a job of some sort to finally take the pressure off my parents and I will be working full time(40+ hours per week) and then when summer semester rolls around I will be adding a couple of classes and all that goes with it to the schedule, and once that happens I won't have time or inclination to have a lot of clothes that I can't go to work in.

Also, me and parties don't mix(I've an IQ of 140, but I'm a complete dunce in social situations, I'm too opinionated), not that I'd ever get invited anyway.  No one has ever wanted to be around me unless they had something to gain from it.  And I mean this, when I say no one in all of my 26 years has ever wanted to be around me just cause they wanted to be around me.

Damn...
Dude i passed through a situation like yours for years (not that i'm much better now but people stopped avoiding me :p), what you really need is just a break.
Save some money and try going somewhere else (the farther the better) for at least a few days.
You'll get to know someone for sure, it will open your mind a lot and you'll end getting fun.
There's someplace you'd like to visit, no?

If your starting a new job thats a good opertunity.  Find out if there is anybody your age at work, and see what they do in their social time.  You should atleast be able to start a conversation with them about something work related, just keep it light, ask what they did at the weekend, etc. Get used to socialising with people, maybe just watching a film and having a beer, don't have to go out to nightclubs/partys.
Even if you just hang about with guys, they are bound to have a few friends who are girls, who you can atleast get used to talking to.

No GitS: Stand Alone Complex here please.  Get your own thread.

On topic, where do you suggest I go?  I don't currently have a job, and when I do get one, it's probably not going to be of the kind that I can just call in and say, "Hey!  I'm going on walkabout for a few days or a week.  I'll let you know when I'm available again."  I'd get laughed at and fired.

Hey, you'll have a few free days per year, right?

I need an opinion from the ladies in the audience...
you know, i'm amazed that a thread originally addressed to the less than 1% of female members on this board managed to extend for four pages. anyway.

what's with all the things about church-dress? anyone want to know what _i_ wear to church? a typical outfit: denim skirt, above the knee but not exactly mini, singlet top, maybe a jacket if it's cool. that's nowhere near formal, okay, i've actually ushered for the service dressed like that.

lib: you're not hot, but you're not not hot either. it's not important anyway, i mean you're a Christian guy, if you looking for girls they'd know, the Christian ones at least, it's not what you look like that matters all that much. but if you feel bad about it... how much does a new shirt cost? you don't have to get a new wardrobe all at once, just get it in bits. and be opinionated, what's wrong with that? who wants a doormat anyway? submission's all well and good, but that doesn't mean you let peole get away with being wrong, you just have to argue nicely.

and last thing, get some female friends. it's healthy. i hang around with the guys at my church. it's not like you have to ask people out if you hang with them.

wait, this really _is_ the last thing. doesn't your church hold social event thingies?

Mmh, pfff, I have to meet you one day, and we'd see if you'd spit on a non-christian guy :p

edit: snip, no, that doesn't raise questions, forgot I already asked that once :nervous:

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

I can change it back, but then I'd just have to put "Nico" as your title so as not to completely confuse the poor n00bs. :p

Well.. I'm not a lady (last time i checked) but gotta answer.  Don't worry Lib. I've seen people who are so butt-ugly that they should be taken behind the house to get shot. You are not in this category :)

I'd say better: I've seen the same as you say, and I've seen them with girls so hot you wouldn't believe it. And, before you ask, the girls were not stupid either.
That said, I guess hot but stupid girls would not go for a guy who's not at least good looking. Well, that comes from my limited knowledge on female's psychology, so I could be wrong, but I do think I'm probably not.

Superficial girls will just refuse having any kind of contact with anyone under their standards...
And the f*cking TV is setting them higher and higher not to mention brainwashing all the teens...
Aside from that kind of people (you'll meet plenty of those everywhere, so keep trying) try to be not too shy.
If we can't compete with the TV models it doesn't mean there are other ways...
Make your own style, not only meant as dressing and appearance, but also in how you act and speak.
Find some distinctive quality you have in your character and develop it.
For example i'm worth jack in almost everything not geekish but i happen to have some more common sense than most of my peers, giving me a "yoda sage aura" joint with the fact i like to listen more than talk :p
True, i wouldn't be the first choice (or even the second :p) for many girls but i aim for quality rather than quantity.
All you need after that is to make decent conversation and some good humor.
That'll do miracles for you ;)

My advice would be:

1º-Stop going to church. I´m not saying you should stop being a christian, i just say that you need to see new horizons, and church is pretty much in the way of that.
2º-Start getting out at night, go to a pub or disco, listen to music and drink some beer.
3º-Stop paying attention to what jerks like George W. Bush and Rush Limbaugh say.
4º Lose the Sunday church christian outfits. Burn the closet in your backyard, and buy new clothes. Just remember to leave your parents home when you do.
5º Lose some weight, let your hair grow, and get a new hair style. The christian look doesn´t cut it. Get contact lenses and lose the glasses.
6º Make new friends. If you do nº2 often enough, you are bound to meet new people. Once you have new friends, dating gets a lot easier.
7º Get a drivers license, buy a car, and get out more. Forget about staying home night after night sitting in front of your computer screen.
8º Get a tattoo, an earring, a piercing, whatever. You need to be more "rebel without a cause" in your attitude. Doing either of those things would show your parents you need change in your life. It´s not about the tattoo, or the ear ring, per se. It´s about you doing what you feel confortable with, and not what your parents want you to. From what i´ve gathered, that´s your biggest problem. You have to convince your parents to leave you be, and do what YOU want to do. As soon as you start feeling confortable with who you really are, things will get easier.
No Freespace 3 ?!? Oh, bugger...
