I made these renders as images for my upcoming FS2 site, Gamma Draconis. I used Modelview to render the ships, Ulead PhotoImpact 7 for most of the editing, and Photoshop 6.0 for certain special effects like alpha channels.

This depicts my old method of doing beam cannons, which is PhotoImpact's "comet effect" made to look like a beam. I now use an alpha-channeled .tga image that I stretch and manipulate to make the beam whatever shape and size is necessary.

When I got Starforce working again yesterday with some table editing, I alpha-channeled several graphics from the game and used them as effects. All of the thruster glows and laser blasts are from Starforce, although the subspace effect uses the Narn twinarray image from TBP 3.0 and a "light bulb" effect with two points to simulate the glow and sticky-out point things (yes, it's supposed to be teal-green. The idea is to resemble the Sathanas subspace rift.).
