I was (well I'm still registered there) a members of the 3000ad BB on his site when I played BattleCruiser Millenium. Anyways, when this debacle got started, I was readin at Blues News, and some troll was posing as Derek and spouting about the ideas he had for FS3. His profile really looked legit, and the way he wrote seemed like it could have been DS.
Anyways, I had a gripe that I posted about a comment a saw saying mods would be killed [
http://www.3000ad.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=37;t=000352#000024], and then had DS feel insulted by it, which I had to explain wasn't the intention. Those boards are just tense. You have to "tread softly" because some of the regulars are willing to pounce on you when they get the chance (don't mean to offend any of them, but that's the way it feels. Just check out any time a newb posts a question)
I check back once in a while, but i will never honestly be duped by the hype. I like the concept, and I wish it could work. But in reality, it just doesn't work and once the novelty wears off the actual gameplay is not that fun. Not to mention having low AI fighter pilot jump straight to a station and get themselves blow away unless you micro manage them every second, or dock them before going into a hostile sector.
Enough for ranting. If DS has good ideas, they just don't always seem to play out as well as they are marketed. And you wonder how much the BC3K code can keep going through redevelopment. I understand he's an indie, and that there is a small staff working, but still.
I support his efforts, I just feel like the comminity over there kills the games. If 3000ad community was just 1/10 as open to newcomers and as patient with people, then they'd have a very lively fan base and I think some amazing things could happen.
Just my humble opinion. I mean look what everyone has accomplished here.
HLP is really a gem.
Cheers!
