How do you open a VP file (if you can)? How do you create a .tbl file for ships, weapons, etc...?

The FreeSpace Kit includes a few other things as well, like viewing tbl files (not editing though).

As far tbl files, best bet is to open up in one Notepad and/or Wordpad and then edit it or add to it. Any text editor would work, I use TextPad personally.

You may also want to consider using modular tables for some tables. Those would just need only your own additions and not the entire list. They need to be done a certain way, do a search to see what you need for them.
