Ok, not a rare occurence round here, but it got me thinking...

After the Police turned up (at around Midday) they simply took Dads details and told Dad to contact his insurance company, and that was job complete as far as they were concerned.

Is it me, or is 'Insurance' becoming more and more an excuse to ignore criminal activity? 'Oh, Don't worry, the Insurance will cover it.'

Quite frankly, I am worried, because it means there are still two criminals wandering around knowing that they are being ignored by the Police.

It also puts, once again, the emphasis on the Victim to be Insured, not on the Law and Order forces to catch criminals, which seems a really really ridiculous way to run a country.

The Police are already trying to say that most "small" offences should be dealth with by civilian officers, to avoid "wasting" police time. Aye... (Was on Teletext, I can't find a link on here)

Did you know we have the largest police force in British history yet the cry from the government and opposition is still "not enough officers".

Edit: On a side note, thats pretty **** for your father. Being a man who guards his car with terminal intent I hope you can find the little pricks who did it.

I've always thought that the punishment for breaking and entering and all other such crimes should be that in addition to serving jail time and forcing the criminal to make good the damages, the victim should be allowed to go round the criminals place of residence and take whatever they wanted

Aways, I'm sorry to hear, Flip, about your dad. Thieves are such horrid people.  I fear all the time, since Hondas are stolen as much as they are. (Since all the parts fit into other hondas. )

Maybe there really are not enough police to handle everything?  I know here in California we would need like double of the Highway Officers to be as effective as they were in the 1970s.

Considering Civilian Officers / et al were originally launched by the Government, it's not just the police

Civilian Officers are members of the Public who work as Police Officers in their spare time.

Think 'Police Academy, Citizens on Patrol' and you wouldn't be a million miles from the truth

The thing is that Shootings in the UK are pretty low, and since the 'small' crimes are mugging, burglary, petty vandalism etc, what is really being said is 'We can't be bothered to deal with 80% of the crime in the UK'.

Funny thing was, all that was stolen was an empty briefcase, an empty suit jacket and a box which they obviously thought was tools, but actually contains spare plastic washers/knobs for the taps/sinks the company sells, he's a rep, but occasionally there'll be a sink with a damaged tap etc, so he'll just give them a replacement part there and then instead of having to go through the factory etc.

So, they got absolutely nothing from it really.

Tour Scotland. The highlands don't have neds, and since Edinburgh has more police than any other city in Scotland (or so it looks when you visit the Royal mile)...

We were getting robbed once, I was the only one home. It was 3 o' clock and I was playing starcraft on the upstairs computer. I hear a rather large bang on ther door downstairs...then silence. I peered downstairs and saw him.....i started to freak out. I was thinking "OMFG OMFG WHAT AM I GONNA DO??!!". At that point I called the police. I ran for the .22 rifle but  then realized I had no ammo so It was usless. I then yelled at the top of my lungs as a last ditch effort "DAD, GET THE GUN!! HURRY!!!" I guess that must have scared the burglar ****less because he was out of there in a hurry. All that incident cost us was a broken door (thank god!!). I couldnt sleep for like a week after that.

Well, I was like 11 at the time.... I was scared ****less. I would have probably shot that guy if I had the proper ammo at the time. It probably wouldnt have killed him (I wouldve aimed for the lower torso and usually people dont die if they are shot with a .22 there) but there would have been blood everywhere......

As far as beating the guy with the butt of the gun, I really couldnt have snuck up on that guy very well to do that... I would have been the one shot in that scenario.

Well, I did one time see our car goes off at 11pm, thinking "eeerrrr, my parents aren't here, my sister's sleeping with her boyfriend.... WTF ?!?". Turned out we managed to get burglarized without hearing anything. Luckily enough, they didn't take anything other than food apart from the car, and the police found the car the day after this. What's still bugging me about this is that I have an idea about who could have done that, but without any proof...

Car crime is intensely annoying.  I have been lucky-ish - but they did smash a window in my old XR2 and got away with about £5.00 worth of goodies, leaving me to find £45 for new glass.  

Most times it's like that - they get f*ck all and do much damage in the process - it points to them being retarded:  Why risk a criminal record for such little payback?

then there are the crackheads who will steal anything that they can pawn off so they can get an 8ball. mostly they hit contsruction sites stealing tools. i saw of those when i was a pawn shark. theyd sign the forms, one of witch was a police form that required a fingerprint. the smarter thieves would walk out right there, but there are some who think that the victim wont report it and gave me a print, trying the best to screw it up. one thing they told us to watch out for was doubletapping the print. which i did see a couple times but didnt say nothing. maybe once or twice a week the police would stop by to collect a stolen item. that pawn shop chain was rather ilicit themselves, there were at least 2 shops that were selling weed.
