HELP: Guns fire through the hull...
I made this model, that i converted with PCS no problem. I see it in the tech database ok and all. But ingame it seems to have problems. When i shoot it, there are some portions of the hull where the lasers simply go through it, instead of hitting it.
Anyone ever come across this? And how do you fix it? I really liked the model, i don´t really want to re-build it all over again from scratch.

Btw, it seems that the shots go through portions of the hull that are in the dark, whereas the iluminated parts seems to work ok. I don´t know if it´s relevent, but anyway...
:blah:
No Freespace 3 ?!? Oh, bugger...

Well I'm noob but I think there is problem with stabile geometry. Some of polys on your model aren't flat. Look at it in your editor and search for them. Then you find it split it with verticles.

If you won't find anything just triangulate whole model.
This is my noobs advice :D

If it is your problem go to this totorial http://underworld.fortunecity.com/pacman/106/fs2mods/shipcreationguide/ to section Creating Stable Geometry

Reminds me of Raa's Sobek. Hiding in the hull was fun, but not being able to take out any turret wasn't. Maybe he'll be able to assist.

Open it in the latest PCS (1.3.42), go to sub-objects, select the hull and click the 'sortnorm bounding debug' button.
If it doesn't look like this:

then it's just not been converted properly.

Solution:
Convert it with either Bobs special autofacet PCS build, or Kazan's latest one. They both have perfect bounding box generation. :)

If it does look like that, then check for geometry errors, and failing that, rebuild the scn file you're converting is about all i can think of.
Get the 2014 Media VPs and report any bugs you find in them to the FSU Mantis so that we may squish them. || Blender to POF model conversion guide

I just checked PCS for the "sortnorm bounding" thingy, and it looks just like that pic. Could a missing texture be causing the model to loose geometry stability? I couldn´t find any geometry errors, i´ve looked for hours for any.
And could you post a link to the latest PCS, please?
I´m using the 1.3.4 version, dated 4-04-2003.

That's officially the latest one... does it have the display window incorporated?  As for collision errors, I've had that happen to me repeatedly.  Textures won't cause it, they'll give you an error, a crash, or do nothing but display white polygons depending on the build.

Does it only happen in places or on the whole model?  One thing that may be causing it is an improper heirarchy, so if you can please let me see a screenshot of Trueview I may be able to help you out.
who needs a signature? ;)
It's not much of an excuse for a website, but my stuff can be found here

No hierarchy yet. Only the hull and a light, so that´s not it.
And it happens in certains parts of the hull, not all of it. I´d calculate about 30% of the hull has colision problems. Usually happens in the darker spots, shadow spots. Bright spots seem to be ok.
The PCS version i have doesn´t have the display window incorporated. It´s a seperate window, so i guess there must be another more recent version out there. But where?

No, he's got the right one.  If it's got a render window at all, it's close enough to the latest so that it should work.  Must be geometry related then.
