Great news, but I'm going to remain skeptical. We've had truces and breakthroughs before, and nothing much has changed...

Sounds good, but I'm skeptical as well...there's enough heated feelings (from what I gather) that some might just strike out on their own.

That's true WMC, but this truce may pose as a means of clearing things up on a diplomatic level in case something goes wrong.

At least, that's the idea...

He's Sharons senior advisor, so I'd say its accuracy is fairly good, the fact that nobody in the government denounced also speaks volumes. As for its age making it irrelevant, 4 months and the death of one man is not going to bring about a complete reversal in Israeli policy, and anyone who thinks it will has their head in the clouds.

That's what I'm worried about - there are some hardcore idiots on both sides who don't want peace on any terms of compromise that lead to Israel and Palestine co-existing. Until those people and their views are marginalised, there won't be a decent peace...

Anyone hear about IDF mortars hitting an Israeli town right before the summit? I don't know what to make of it, really. One one hand, it seems a bit convenient that the defense minister issued a press release to the effect "we fear mortar attacks by Hezbollah" just hours before the attacks, which were indeed initially blamed on Hezbollah, before an IDF whistleblower came forward. On the other, even I have to draw the line somewhere...
