Well, I have this cruiser I was making to sorta replace the Leviathan/Faustus in Chapter 2&3 of my campaign...

Sicne I like the leviathan and it's textures 8and hte Ticonderoga looked swell) I decided to make something in that direction..

Now this is still a early WIP, since I started work on it about 2 hours ago:




Do you think it looks better with that bump on the front and with those long side bars?

Not bad, I just don't like the dual engines.
And I prefer with the bars and the bump.

You might try making the engine blocks more regular; the fenris/levithan and the ticonderoga have mostly 45 degree angles back there, so it's sort of a design trend.  Whether you go with it or not is up to you, but that's what we've seen work for this style design in the past.

Actually, since it's already been pointed out, I think it needs something else to distinguish it from Hamano's design.  You may try turning the engines so that they are vertical, Homeworld Kushani style, or give it some extra superstructure.  The difference in the conning tower is only going to deminish as you work on it, I fear.

It's too much like the Ticonderoga for me to say much about it. I'm not saying it's plagiarism, but it's too similar - you need to do something to it to make it yours...

Ahh!  those turrets!  They're so ugly!  Not to mention that they are far too large for where you've got them mounted.

And you still haven't done anything to differentiate this from the Ticonderoga.  Besides the fact that Hamano's mesh looks worlds better.

Definitely lose those turrets. You need to do something to make it different to the Tic and the LeviFenris. You can use a similar design style, yes, but this just looks the same....

speaking of the ticonderoga, is anyone planning to high polyfy it?

Excuse me? It's the point to look similar! I want to see you using hte same style and textures and come up wit hsomething "completely" different.

The only thing that is the similar as with the ticonderoga is the engine section. Ticonderoga has a FAR longer nose with a fenris shape, bigger and boxier towers and I think it has the same missile launcer as a Leviathan...

And yes, those turrets do look to big. They are placeholders.

Trashman, everyone who has commented in this thread agrees that the point is to look similar.  That's not what we're telling you.  You need to justify a reason to be doing this.  If it's a case study into the Fenris shape and how to effectively model it, then I'm obligated to say you're not doing a particularly good job; if it's to have another cruiser of that style then fine but make it unique.  Right now that's anything but unique, and that's a problem.  Keep spitting out "variants" and people will get tired of them, nevermind that it's not currently justifying the extra table entry.  Hamano's drawing inspired me though, so I may take you up on that challenge.

Oh, and learn to take criticism better, please.  You get way too defensive, way too fast, and then don't listen to anything that's said.  Look at it from our perspective; this is the second time in as many weeks that I've seen you post something extremely similar to an existing ship and trying to pass it off as new.

How dare you accuse me of trying to pass something that is clearly insipred by an Leviathan/Ticonderoga (and I mentioned that) as a new and original design. I never said that.

Didn't I write at the beginning that I'm trying to make a sucessor to the leviathan for my cmpign? Thus, thatjustifies the similarities. as for the variants thing - people make variants of existing ships all the time, there's nothing wrong with that.

At least I'm trying to make mine look a bit different and to fit in with other ships I'm making.
There is a leviathan on that pic, and I can put a comparison with a Ticonderoga and you can see first hand just how different they are. You work from memory, I work with the models of other ships in the background to NOT make them the same.

And I do listen to what you're saying. Didn't I change the nose, fiddled with the engine block and didn't I say the turrets will be removed?

Anyway, I appreciate the comments you are giving, but I'm left with an impression (and I'm hope you're wrong) that you're connstantly speaking from "yon high" like you're the only one who's ever right.
Just look at some other people WIP posts and look how I answer.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I gottaa go fiddle with some of the missions...again.
