My first computer drawing
I drew planets, space backgrounds and other stuff for a long time (and I'm still not satisfyed of my work) and decided to make something less abstract...

The whole picture is done with my computer. I never drew or coloured any pictures by computer (except planets and space BGs) like I said at the start of my post. I must give some credit to Turnsky since I kinda "learned" to do the lightnings on the angel by looking his work with UT's hammerman. I didn't textured the angel since I only begin to draw on my computer. I wish I could use some of my sketches but I do not own a scanner (not yet!) and even if I had, I don't use a pen so I would mostly scrap my pic. I know I am not as talented as many of you here but I hope you like it!

What the hell is wrong with his legs and head?

Otherwise its sorta cool.

Looks like another potential artist begins his journey... :)

The head is a bit difficult to see though.
Oh, and either lose the flat ground, or do a bit more work on it. The flat MSPaint style ground kinda detracts from the image.

But yeah, looks pretty good. Can't wait to see more work from you mate. :D

Thx for your comments! They really help me and I appreciate it a lot :) ! Just a few things: For the head, it's actually looking up so what you see is his chin. But you are right it needs some work! Also, I would like to know how I could improve the ground so it less looks like The flat MSPaint style ;) ! I tryed to blur the surface but it seems that it did not worked :( !

that's quite not bad, only i have to nitpick the actual figure. i appreciate that it must be hard to draw with a mouse (i assume that's what you're doing if you don't have a pen) but that still doesn't excuse the randomly weird shape of his body... legs too short, no heels, chest has this random hump, neck looks broken... wings are quite good though...

i'm curious as to the style of your usual sketches, could you borrow someone's camera and take a photo to post?

Simply removing the ground would probably improve the setting a fair bit.
But if your insistant on keeping it, I suppose, changing it into some mountains might get a better atmosphere, further giving the illusion of height.
Draw a few peaks of mountains, trick is not to have a curved apex, keep them pointed. Then play around with them by adding texture, maybe something similar to the effect on the wings?

Remember though these are all just suggestions, its still your image and up to you what you want to do with it. :)

Yup I'm drawing with a mouse. You are right I'm not very good drawing bodies for now. I try do do other poses than just "facing the cam". I have a sketch that is similar to this one with the same angel, but not with the big wings and he is not floating in the air. I will take my cam to show you when I get some time to do it. Also I still have the PSD source of the pic so I will surely remake the whole body except the wings.

I don't do sketches very often since I am very busy these times and most of the time, I draw them [sketches] at school when I have some spare time. I draw also at home and as soon as I get a scanner I will show you up some sketches. there again I'm mostly a beginner  but I think they are still good sketches in my stuff. I think I am strong making cars. I drew tons of them (models that I invent myself) so this will surely be the next thing I'll post here.

There is some handy tutorials and tips here:
http://www.gfxartist.com/features/tutorials

Not all of them work, but there are a few handy ones to do with photoshop etc.

Should check it out. :)

Okay I re-drew all the body of the angel. I had a hard time making it better, but I think it's body is more how to say that... more proporsionate (sry for my poor english...)? I made the head more recognizable and the leggs longer, as asked above. I also liked the concept of the mountains so I did it :) !

Thx Grug for the link! I will take a look on these tutorials. I don't like to read tutorials since I like to develop my own style and affradi of all those paragraphs but learning the basics can't hurt!

Kewl.
That's 10x better. :)

The mountains came up great, and I can recognise the face now.
Keep up the good work mate! :D

proportionate? yeah, it is, heaps. now work on the light on the body, because if you think about it, the light won't simply outline it, it'll also shine off parts of it, make bits lighter and darker.

but yeah, that's heaps improved, good work mate.

I'm actually working on the lighning effects as requested above!
Here's the sketch I did. You'll see it's not really the same thing but the same character. Only his wings are not as big as on the other picture. I found that the head on the sketch is a bit too big and there is surely many other mistakes in it. I began drawing characters in details this year all by myself (I drew a lot the past 2 years but most of my drawings were cars).
REMOVED TO SAVE BANDWITH
The quality of the pic is horrbile since I took it with my cam but that's all I can do until I get a scanner.

Pyro, In order to fix it use the high pass filter in photoshop (filter >other >high pass). set it to about 150.

Mmm... I didn't find "Hugh Pass Filter" since I use GIMP and use it in french, but I think I found somethhing close to it. I reinforced the contrasts and we see the picture better. There are still some color glitches especially in the sword but it should be okay.

Thx anyway! Help is always appreciated!

Kewl.

If you get a detailed and proportionate sketch, and then get a scanner, there are some tutorials that can help you colour it in and fine tune stuff to make it look kewls.

I'm yet to try this myself, I seem to be low on artistic flare of late...

mm, that's okay although the subject is rather depressing.

please don't be offended when i say that if you intend to continue drawing human figures, you need help. for starters, it's not bad, but it could get much, much better. the only advice i can give is practice, any time you can, with anyone who'll pose, with any photos you can get your hands on. practice drawing real people as much as you can- the observations that come with that is what'll make you better (it's what i did, for years on end, sometimes with a mirror for lack of anyone willing to stop.) tutorials and drawing step-by-step instruction books give handy hints and short-cuts, but those will give you nothing except boring poses and lifelessness.

so... yeah, practice makes better, so go for it, and show us some of the results!

and if you don't like me saying that sort of stuff then tell me and next time i'll shut up.

The subject is depressing, yes he is actually. There a little background story about him but it's not very clear in my head.

Nope I am not offended and completeley aware that I need to practice to draw faces. I am actually taking some drawing classes and we will do some face drawing with human bodies or photos. As for practicing everytime I can, well uhh when I do nothing in my classes except maths or french, I'll draw for sure, as usual  ! I don't want you to shut your mouth I'm open to every critics :) !

I got a couple of sketch here that are not human bodies so if you want me to post some of them just ask!

The maybe final result of my angel is coming soon! Just the time to fix some stuff on it!

Coming along nicely. :)

Is it me or do the legs appear dislocated or something?

The way the lighting effect was on the arms is getting there. Still seems to need more texture on the wings and chest though.

Hope you keep going. :D
