I've put on a few extra kilo's I don't really need over the holidays, and am thinking of doing some sort of fitness program.

I'm just wondering, if or what type of fitness routines do you guys have, and how often you do it etc...?

I was considering getting into doing a regular morning jog, or possibly even joining a gym. But that requires $$$...

Edit: lol. Funny, you replied before I posted the Thread!

I generally resent gyms, unless you're going to go the whole way and get a personal trainer. Without a trainer, a gym is basically a place that makes you pay to lift stuff and walk. I can do that just fine in regular life. ;)

I tend to bike and swim, because they're low-impact (good for the joints - running on roads = bad for knees) and free. Swimming has the added bonus of keeping my lungs strong, which is good since I was born with asthma.

Well I wouldn't mind swimming, but we don't have a pool, and lets just say I don't really enjoy public pools... bad experience.

I tend to agree with you about Gym's, though it would be handy having access to some weights etc.
I'm tempted to buy my own kick bag but am not entirely sure where I'd put it, and if I'd use it as much as I'd like...
I do have a bike, just not really many places to go...

Take two cement buckets (weight of your choice, I suggest 20kg on each side...sounds about good...maybe 30kg) and a pole.

Let it dry.

Also, run, pushups, pull ups, etc.

I need to do it as well, but I'm just lazy.

get a job at a construction site. you get paid to get a workout each day, and you also make a fashion statement with those hard hats, singlets, work boots and short shorts (if you're daring, you could even go shirtless).

I'm thinking the people in this thread should never go shirtless anywhere, considering its nature.

The ergometer (read: indoor rowing machine) is an absolutely brutal device best used for torturing your worst enemy. But damn does it get you into shape if you push yourself on it.

Also, lifting, running, biking, and playing basketball.

I can't wait until it warms up a little bit and the ice melts off the water so we can put the boats back in the water and actually row.
Wash: This landing's gonna get pretty interesting.
Mal: Define "interesting".
Wash: *shrug* "Oh God, oh God, we're all gonna die"?
Mal: This is the captain. We have a little problem with our entry sequence, so we may experience some slight turbulence and then... explode.

That only works to a certain extent. I'm working up a semi-decent tan at the moment anyway.
I guess I like to live dangerously. :)

I wouldn't mind a rowing machine.

Not a real fan of basketball though.

The fitness problem came to my attention when I nearly damn well collapsed after mowing the lawn the other day.
Couldn't believe that it took so much out of me.
Mind, it was a hot day and in the late morning.

You could keep up your current fitness level by taking up a sport, one that has you running around a lot -- like paintball or airsoft :D
Seriously, you end up running a lot, and if you have a large gun, you have to run with a big heavy object :)
And you get to shoot people, so it all works out in the end. :D

I'd love to get back into skirmish again, just costs so damn much. :(

It's hella fun though. :)

i myself go to the gym reguraly 3 or 4 times a week. Its not that i go in for getting buffed but just to stay in shape and  avoid beeing sick. Its proven that if you train aroun atleast 2 times a week you are more resistent to some diseases.
