Hello,

A very long time ago, I once played Freespace 2. And I liked it a lot! Recently, I decided to try to find it again, and downloaded the HOTU version. I found out that apparently, freespace 2 is now free and found this website via the links on HOTU.

I have downloaded the VP files both from the FTP server as from the eDonkey network. All the .vp files are identical as the should, except for the file tango1_fs2.vp.

The version from the FTP server is 131.412.895 bytes big,
the version from the donkey network is 195.887.233 bytes big.

I have downloaded the specific file again, and I am pretty sure that both versions are correctly extracted (not corrupted, no errors).
Which one is the correct one?

195,887,233 is the size for my Retail FS2, dunno if the FTP is an 'upgraded' one.

The FTP version probably cut off part way through.

Just out of interest where did you find out about the HotU version from? We've had 3-4 people join us in the last couple of days which makes me think that someone has posted a link up somewhere

Thanks for pointing this out herb. Don't ask me how, but the tango_vp on the FTP is missing some .ani files in it.

As far as i remember, these are the version that were initially uploaded to the FTP and repackaged by me (into rar's not vp's) So i guess I got a different version. I never really checked, but thanks for catching this.

THe versions on emule were taken off FS2 cd's and xzipped up, so that explain why they are different.

I didn't find a specific link to HOTU. I already knew that site and was looking for a nice game when I found Freespace 2 on HOTU. That sure brought back a lot of memories....
