The Replacement Xbox Power Cable.
as many of you already know, Xbox has been replacing their power cables, for free, due to some fault or somesuch with the cables..

well, i ordered mine not long ago, and i got it today..

here's what those who ordered it can expect, i was actually just expecting to get a cable, not to get one with a surge protector attached to it, rather speccy, IMO

That's got to be the most retarded non-transformer-equiped plug that I think I've ever seen.  Who decided the plastic needed to cover 150% of the recepticle anyway?

And Clave, why do all of your posts end with the "ha!" icon?
who needs a signature? ;)
It's not much of an excuse for a website, but my stuff can be found here

strat, most modern singular plug surge protectors are that big.  it's big, yeah. but i'd rather have a working xbox, then one that doesn't and smells like burnt PCB and silcone. :p

I'm not talking about the surge protector, that's reasonably sized.  I'm actually refering to the huge hulking chunk of plastic around the pins that stick into the wall, which can serve no purpose whatsoever other than making removing the cord from said recepticle that much more difficult and preventing something else from being plugged in to the outlet above it.  At least that's what it looks like from that angle.  If it were there in a way you could easily grab it and pull it out, then that's one thing.  That's just big for no reason.

Why exactly does the X-Box require that extra surge-protection, anyway?

EDIT: I'm retarded and didn't take in to account that this is not an American outlet configuration.  Were I to get something with that much extra plastic around the pins I'd be saying WTF, but I think that's the way it's supposed to work for you.

yah, we australians have wierd plug configurations, that, and our mains power is 240v standard.

oh, right, also, most heaver power load appliances usually have an earth plug, too, consisting of a third prong on the socket

like this:

i know that US standard plugs are prolly more compact and different than ours.

In probable response to StratComm, this is probably why they need the extra surge-protection:

So the X-box uses electricity! Who'd have guessed.  I seriously doubt it's a legitimate hazard but rather someone getting all paranoid about a faulty cord not indicitive of the whole. :doubt:

And Turnsky, I wouldn't say that our outlets are more compact, but we don't hold things in a circular configuration like you appear to.  The two normal pins, if they are all that's needed, usually get a square plug a quarter-centimeter or so larger than the pins themselves, and for the third pin, when used, the plug usually gets a triangular extension in that one direction.  You can get exposed third-pin jacks, but since it connects to ground there really isn't much of a health risk there.  I know why plugs have to be different from one country to the next, I just always forget to consider it.

Does that mean it's the same cable, but with a bigger fuse?

hehe.

It'd be typical microsoft engineering - don't fix the problem, just add another layer of guff to cover it up.

Got spyware in your O/S?  Add a new program to run on top.
Security holes?  Add a proprietary anti-virus to run on top and leave the holes.
Dodgy power cable?  Let it blow and shove a fuse in the middle.

:D :p

That thing is a monster.

I like my NORMAL power cable. Glad I got a newer model Xbox. (plus it has the better dvd drive :ha: )

The cables probably aren't really defective. More likely that some people didn't use them right.
