The contract, heavily censored before release, asks researchers to look for "optimal pulse parameters to evoke peak nociceptor activation" - in other words, cause the maximum pain possible. Studies on cells grown in the lab will identify how much pain can be inflicted on someone before causing injury or death.

Man I want one of those.

Its only pain... Soldiers will no doubt be trained afterwards to realise that the pain inflicted does not cause bodily damage, therefore is not dangerous. Just hurts alot. That... And alot of combat drugs, and were laughing.

Hhehe.

It would be awsome if you could inflict it on yourself.

It was quite effective in the Stainless Steel Rat:

The pain unit had total sensory control of the victim, even to the extent of recreating a complete scenario where his hands were chopped off by his captors.  He saw, and felt, the entire event as though it were totally real, and even woke up with his hands apparently re-attached by surgery, complete with scar tissue.  Of course The Rat escaped, as usual but it was an interesting chapter, being at the mercy of someone who could turn a control and make you suffer pain electronically...

Um, it's for riot-control purposes.  Beats using rubber bullets which can still kill.

Remotely triggering spasms of pain is a good thing now? If this is used in "riot-control" in any significant way, there is every possibility that whoever this weapon is directed against might seek to even the playing field a bit, if you get my drift.

What scares me ****less is that there is no easy defense against such a weapon. Which puts 99% of the power into police hands, with the sincere trust that they would never, ever in a million years abuse such power.
