First of all I'd like to ask if anyone has done a short movie or fan movie of Freespace 2? If not, I've been thinking about making one. A short one. Around 10-15 mins long, it mostly consist of a space battle sequence. I've practically scripted it, I'm just thinking if there is anyone out there who would want to be part of this project? Mostly in the animations and special effects, dunno if I wanna yet use real actors, but I'm considering it. Then some help in other areas. I think it would be a fun project, nothing GRAND but it would be cool. I've seen people make fan films in the spirit of Star Wars, so I thought why not make one in the spirit of Freespace?

Good luck...rendering 9 seconds with 1 light, 51 objects, and ray tracing takes overnight... this would take forever unless you've got some Solaris Workstation or summit

I know it''ll take of time rendering it. But I've seen people do it for their Star Wars fan films. if the redering would be split up amongst many computers, the time would be shorter, but I don't mean to make this film over night, nor over the weekend. This would be a long project, and hopefully a really cool project.

As for the movie idea, it would be cool. That was one of the main attractions of SB for me... but all I can say is that it would be hard. I don't have enough power to animate down my end, anyway (that's why I settled on stills).

Yes, it would require of work rendering the animations, but I've seen people do it for fan films! The best one I've seen is a Star Wars Fan film about Boba Fett called the Bounty Trail, thats some pritty high quality filming! The first 5 mins is the whole dogfight between IG-88 and Boba Fett from Shadows of the Empire. But I've also seen a fan movie of Quake 3 using its game engine to make a 15 min movie called "The escape from Bastille" really cool! So its not impossible... I mean the game engine for FS2 is cool enough for me! But using 3DMax would be nicer.

Animating in lightwave is a lot easier, trust me.

This sounds really cool. But, this has been tried before, multiple times. I don't think any of them made any progress though. Where can I find these Star Wars fan films, and are there any lightsaber senes? (Please tell me, I've read all 70 of the novels! I'm crazy about Star Wars!)

Heh heh, its pritty funny, but heres a funny one too, the acting is horrible but the premise is really good! The first scouting missions to Endor and the stormtroopers get hunted down one by one by the EVIL Ewoks. Its called the INVISIBLE ENEMY.
