Could anyone tell me how to alter the controls to FRED?  I don't have a number pad, as I'm using a laptop now, so without that number pad right now I don't know how to rotate my view.  Any help on this would be highly appreciated.

You're slightly screwed I'm afraid. You could switch from camera to current ship viewpoint I suppose, and fl around a bit, but that's all I can think of that'll fix the problem

Well, on my laptop it doubles for:

But there ought to be some sort of hint on the keyboard.

Yes, look for an "Fn" key, the Fn text should be in a particular colour, then scan your keyboard for numbers on keys with this colour.

Hold Fn and the keys, it should work fine, laptops have been having Fn keys for years.
Make sure Num Lock is on.

Thanks, guys!  That works.  Hopefully people with the same problem will be able to search and find this thread.  I couldn't find anything from the past when I searched.

Bump.  I have the same issue, although I'm not really content with the given solution.  It's a pain to hold down the Fn key with one hand while you operate the pseudo-numpad with the other.  Is there absolutely no way to alter the key bindings for FRED2 Open?
