You seem surprised?
Government is the great fiction through which everybody endeavors to live at the expense of everybody else.

Yeah, honestly, I can't imagine anyone being surprised anymore. Just when people stopped fuming over John Bolton and Negroponte, the nice folks at the White House step up and give us all a great little **** you.

Ehh... at least he wouldn't be in charge of a lot of things that go "boom" anymore.

He's left his legacy. And besides, while it may be less spectacular, economic warfare is no less harmful.

Seems to me this "World Bank" is over-rated and worldly only by name, since it´s basically the american bank that deals with international loans to other countries. It´s not the IMF (International Monetary Fund). I think...
And if so, Wolfowitz won´t have that much power to disrupt the world economy, since it is well know how the american govt is welching on many of its payments, (mainly to the UN), and other aids they promised to several african nations.
Just like the tsunami disaster, where several hundred millions were promised in aid, but only a fraction of the money actually ever arrived.
And this wasn´t just the US´s pledged aid, several other countries welched on their promises aswell. A real shame...
The point being that Wolfowitz won´t be doing anything that hasn´t been done already, by previous managements. Allthough i expect some more money going Iraq´s way, and probably Syria and Iran won´t get 1 cent,  even if they are hit by the worst natural disaster in history, but as for the rest, it will be just "buziness as usual".
It´s not like Wlfowitz can do an even worst job than what we´ve seen in the last decade...
No Freespace 3 ?!? Oh, bugger...

netscape news won't find the stories

Besides which, the FT story means nothing more than he's promised to listen. He can then completely ignore what he's heard.
