Have you tried it out yet? My one question in regards to airsoft is: how much do the little bastards hurt when they hit you?

They hurt about as much as paintball.

And anyway Deepblue, I play a lot, so welcome to airsoft :D

I was like haha, until I realized that minigun was a real paintball gun. :eek2:

I'd expect at that rate of fire, ammo would be scarce though. And it would be more like spray the area.

Btw, nice rifle Deepblue. Whats its range?

What does airsoft shoot?
Wash: This landing's gonna get pretty interesting.
Mal: Define "interesting".
Wash: *shrug* "Oh God, oh God, we're all gonna die"?
Mal: This is the captain. We have a little problem with our entry sequence, so we may experience some slight turbulence and then... explode.

6mm plastic BBs. Only the more powerful gas and electric automatics leave long-lasting welts. Springers are usually only mosquito-bite sized welts that sting for a second or two.
But you HAVE to wear rated safety glasses when using these, preferably a full-face mask. If you get shot in the eye, you can lose it, and you can loose a tooth if you get shot close enough (although I've been shot in the mouth plenty of times, it's never happened to me).

I don't mean to scare you though, it's a really fun game, and you get used to the pain of the BBs after awhile (pretty much every guy in the group I play with uses T-shirts and long pants). You just need to make sure to follow the safety practices :)

EDIT: And I'd range the gun for a dependable accuracy to be 50-70 feet, if you don't upgrade it. Usually they use theoretical specs on websites, not actually the data from the gun itself :)

While I enjoy Airsoft for its greats weapons and good feel "Personally own an airsoft tactical shotgun". For the real outdoors, feeling afraid and being in combat, I'd go for paintball. Airsoft is no comparison to the hurt you get in paintball. True, airsoft does sting, but a loose shirt or even jump-vest and you really dont feel a thing, that can cause problems during games. Paintball on the other hand. If by some miracle you dont feel it, atleast you can still see it.

Airsoft is most fun however in an urban setting and in the summer. So t-shirts and shorts. It hurts, makes you duck more, and people get nervous. Although the cops have come to our neigbourhood a couple of times when 5 25 year old guys are running around toting shotguns and uzis. Makes the old ladies a bit nervous. :D
I have returned... Again...

Actually, airsoft BBs can hurt like hell. I didn't tell him 'cause I don't want to scare new players, but I've heard stories of people having to pop BBs out of their skin like pimples :p

But yea, the feeling thing is a prob, but if anyone's interested, I might have a solution (if we patent it, it'd probably get lotsa money ;)). PM if you are :D

Airsoft is a lot cheaper than paintball too. BTW, where could I buy an airsoft gun in the U.S. All I can get here in are cheap, transparent plastic pistol, shotgun and SMG from Canadian Tire. They work fine (200-230 fps) but no real variety.

If they're cheap and made by CYMA, do not get them. They are Chinese pieces of crap.

And you can get it shipped from a variety of sites. www.protectiondepot.com, www.airsoftatlanta.com, www.den-trinity.com (I think that's the site), which ships from Hong Kong.

Basically, if you want to get an automatic, get a Tokyo Marui. They are simply the best airsoft guns out there.

www.airsoftretreat.com is a great community place for airsoft :)

The 100 feet thing was based on a forum review. It got all positive reviews from what I saw...

This gun was particulary attractive because it did get good reviews, apparently is good quality, AND it is cheap. Got it for 49.99 at shortyusa.com.

I still plan on wearing some thicker clothes...

Oh, and does anyone know how much a good scope and flashlight cost? The ones this gun ship with aren't the best and I would like to upgrade.

Anywhoo, this is the little list of things the seller had to say about the gun:

- This gun is insane!
- Surprisingly high quality all around with great detail.
- The most affordable high performance M4 available today.
- Built on the M4 RIS frame the Model 4 features an upgraded reinforced body and barrel.
- High compression piston and upgraded barrel produce .6 Joule of power!!
- New generation 3 point collapsible stock.
- Integrated RIS system with 5 mounting rails, V2 reinforced removable vertical foregrip.
- Red dot sight and tri-power LED flashlight.
- Operation: Spring.
- Muzzle velocity: 260 fps w/ .2g (.6J).
- Effective range: 90-100 feet.
- Ammo type: .2g.
- Hop Up: Fixed.
- Weight: 5 lbs.
- Magazine capacity: 18 rds with 400 rd reservoir.
- Length: 28", 30", 31.5".
- Comes with orange tip
- The styrofoam the Model 4 is packed in fits around the gun very tightly to protect it during shipping. When you lift the gun out of the foam be sure to lift the gun out evenly and slowly. Do not grab one end and yank the gun out or you could damage the barrel. If you do this it is considered negligence and the damage will not be covered under warranty.

And this is a little blurb from "The Old Man" on the Airsoft Retreat forums:

Got a chance to play around with the new version of the Neon Fire M4 today. Impressed? You bet. It's nearly as heavy if not heavier than the HFC XM 177 I compared it to. It shot better than the HFC! Cost: $47.00.

Shoots .20's around 90 feet. Much stonger and more accurate than their older version (which is'nt that old and is not a bad rifle itself). This gun is at least twice as heavy. A little shorter and has the new style collapsable stock.

Easily assembled (snap the stock on and slap in the mag and your set to go), you are given a in-expensive flashlight and scope with lighted crosshairs (doesnt appear to be adjustable). What the hell, it's for looks anyway (and this rifle is good looking). There is enough rail system available to hang anything on this gun you can find.

The cocking rod is plastic, but feels more firm than their previous model (which I've owned since June and two young kids have not managed to break it!).

Now we have all read that this guns was going to shoot nearly 1 joule or 300 fps etc. etc.-Sorry but no. I didnt have a chronograph available so I'll "guestimate" the speed as a good 260-280 FPS. Not bad.

Accuracy appeared to be acceptable. It was very windy today, but I managed to hit pretty much everything I aimed at, out to the 90 foot range that I had available to me.

So, the question is, did I buy it? Nope-because when I got it back into the Flea Market, someone who had been watching me shoot it bought it before I could and then the 3 others that my supplier had with him went out the door while I was waiting on other customers and talking air soft with some parents who were considering Christmas purchases. Damn!!!

Next question, am I going to buy it. Are you kidding me? A $47.00 springer that has than kind of performance and looks this good? You bet your ___! I mean yup!

If your looking for a decent rifle in this price range, check it out. These guys have really stepped up their quality control and I think this is their way of making a statement that the competition best be looking over their shoulder!

(PS next week I'll be comparing it to a new DPMS!)

-----

I think I will be happy with it as a starter.

Oh, yea, that reminds me: like the man said, get .2 bbs, not .12s. If you get .12s the BB will go straight up because the gun's hop-up and power is too much. Makes ure to buy it based on weights, not colors, as well, because colors don't matter ;)

Already got .2 gauge bbs with my order, that and airsoft gun lube.
