Toxic chemicals and teflon? Read on
Great article presented by CBC's Marketplace about Teflon and a related chemical that breaks down into a potentially toxic substance.  And guess what...its everywhere.

Read:

This is why having a publically funded news and broadcasting agency which is partially free of corporate advertising influence pays off...in dividends.

do I want to read it knowing i'll discover something horrible?

EDIT: Read about half it to get the gist of it and honestly, I'm not worried.

Well...all my school uniform clothes are treated with teflon...

If I showed up wearing a Pantera shirt and faded jeans, think I could use this as an excuse?

Teflon has fluor in it, the most rabid element beside radioactives.

It's no suprise teflon wasn't meant to be burned in you owen.

Jelly

Oh, and what Americans call jelly is actually Jam.  I don't know what the Us name for proper jelly is, but it's made of gelatine

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Granted I don't know how you'd throw it that hard, but it would be dangerous.

No, we have a difference between jelly and jam. They're both spreads, but jelly is more, err... jelatinous, whereas jam just kind of glops, and it usually has seeds in it. Jell-O is something entirely different.

Having had both Jelly (called 'Preserve' in the UK) and Jam, I can confirm that.

And yes, what the British call Jelly, the Americans tend to call Jello, which is actually a brand name. :)

From toxic Teflon to Railgunned Jelly, we really do get around don't we? ;)

Main problem is you need to throw it quite close to the target, things like jelly, feathers, and other non lethal novelty items tend not to go very far, regardless of how hard you throw them. :sigh:

As for teflon, should I be worried about my pans?.... Nah, I'm off to fry some breakfast.

Jelly is Nature's Teflon, and the sooner we wake up and smell the burning toxins, the better it will be.  (NB: jelly only turns into teflon at Mach 7 and beyond) :nervous:
