I have a question, though - in the preview (and during the episde) for Atlantis, there are a bunch of hive ships. Far more than two. Yet they continue to insist there's only two hive ships.

I've only seen the miniseries and the first four episodes of nBSG, but from what I've seen, it already kicks the crap out of the Stargates.

Though Atlantis gets a lot of bonus points for having McKay. Best. Character. Ever.

You can tell who survives based on the confirmed cast list and spoilers of other episodes, though... plus some odd stuff

Spoiler:

Shepard survives - I reckon he gets beamed away by the newly arrived Daedelus.
McKay, Beckett IIRc Weir all survive - so the city almost certainly does.
Ford gets abducted by the Wraith and turned into a sort of super-soldier... he's only a recurring character, though, rather than a regular.
It's likely the marine..er..officer dies, as  Mitch Pileggis' character takes over (possibly comes on Daedelus).

More wilds stuff that might happen apparently includes;
Asgard joins the series / team
They find another Atlantis-style city

Just on a totally different subject that cracks me up is that for a long time the tv presenter here used to pronounce the show Stargoat. Since there was an Å in it. As in Stargåte. Å is pronounced like an oh. Hence stargoat. Man, it still cracks me up.

Offhand, I think it's because the symbol used in the show for Earth, is an inverted V with the circle above.

I'm not sure if it's a genuine hieroglyphic, but the symbology is clear; a star above a pyramid.  Incidentally, one of the pyramids (red pyramids at Dashur) lines up in that way with the star Epsilon Tauri. (other pyramids also line up with stars in the same way).

In the original Stargate movie...the symbol of Abydos (the only gate address they had) was a pyramid with three circles.  The big mystery during the movie was what the return address to Earth was.  And thats the pyramid with a single circle above it.

The Atlantis logo harkens back to that...as does the Stargate SG-1 logo.  Symbol of home.
