So, what did you guys think of the new Dr Who series?

I was pretty impressed... effects were a little odd in places but I think that was kind of the point. The rest of it seemed fast, light and incredibly fun to watch.

[20:57] tonight's "new" DrWho was a pile of utter ****e

Hehe, some people disagree I think.

I don't watch that stuff myself - I saw a promo, it looked like trash to me.

Each to their own :) Any idea why you/they don't like it?

Uhh, when I saw the promo personally, it just didn't appeal to me. Looked superficial, and not worth my time. Of course, I could be wrong, but then again I will never see it, so no huge loss.

[21:01] I seriously hope it's intended to be a comedy
[21:01] I just happened to see the thread after seeing your opinion
[21:01] Andf yes
[21:02] Trash...
[21:02] and I know nubi put up a promo here which I saw
[21:02] looked trash to me
[21:02] But then anything involving billie is.
[21:02] coz the cg was laughable... the enchanted weapons in morrowind look lore realistic than the wheeliebin did
[21:02] hell
[21:02] been typing "lore" too much
[21:02] I can do better
[21:02] more*
[21:02] :P
[21:02] y'know - her music career - LOOK AT WHAT HAPPENED TO CHRIS EVANS FOR GODS SAKE!
[21:02] lol
[21:03] and now this
[21:03] dr who ****e :)
[21:03] point proven
[21:03] :D
[21:03] Give me a cookie
[21:03] no
[21:03] I ate them
[21:03] you can have one in about 24 hours, when it's gone through me system......
[21:03] :P

Maybe a few more insights into why he didn't like it, but after a few lines, they just start talking about cookies again (like they do most of the time), so yeah.

What was the point of that man in his garden shed, and why did:

Spoiler:
Those shop dummies have guns?  I mean if you're designing a shop dummy you don't think "Maybe it'll come to life and go on a rampage, and I should help it by giving it a gun!" do you

Regardless I thought it was excellent

Not a fan of Dr Who, both the new and old versions of the show are  lame IMO.

Fair enough, it's not everyones cup of tea. Heck - I don't watch soaps because I can't stand them. Same thing here for some people I guess :)

kietotheworld, to answer your questions:

Spoiler:

I think the man in the potting shed was merely an aid to further the story along.. through him we learnt that the Doctor has had a hand in human affairs for some time (heck, a hell of a long time)... and has been at the epicentre of several historic events at least. It also introduces the notion that he's immortal (or rather, can travel through time)

As for the shop dummies.. I get the feeling they were put in place by the sentient invasion creature? Otherwise... yeah, I don't know. The abilities of the plastic creations seemed to be quite varied - I guess guns were another feature of them. Or perhaps they're just something silly.

That's how I see it, anyhow.

I saw the last 15 minutes (waiting for the Scotland game to come on*).  Looked cheap and tacky to me.... exactly the same as the old ones.

* sniff.  Better than bloody Bertie, at least

i didn't think it was that bad i am a fan of the old series,( well the Cybermen anyway, the original borg, if you read the books their  "assimalation" is way more grusome than the borg. I hope they make a come back)

if there is any consistancy with the Shivans, it's their lack of consistancy - -Norbert-

The cybermen aren't in this series. The writer has said they may be in the next.

The Daleks of course ARE back :D

Personally I thought it was great. It didn't take itself too seriously and managed to get in a couple of digs at the old series.

Spoiler:
I did find it odd that Billie Piper's character couldn't notice that her boyfriend had been taken and cloned but then again she was married to Chris Evens

Oh and if someone is complaining about the special effects they need their f**king head examined. Dr Who has never been about the special effects.

If you liked the old one you should enjoy it. They've kept the Doctor's inherant strangeness and even though I was a little worried about the plot at first (It sounds fairly bad on paper) they did manage to pull it off.

The Next Week teaser definately whetted my appitite though :D

Apparently this series is 13 Episodes long, so does that mean that after this series there will be a new doctor or not.  I hope not!

I thought it was good - It didn't take itself too seriously and Ms Piper can act well enough for this sort of thing.  Of course you will never please the hardcore fans, but who cares?  I don't, and I will be watching again next week...

BTW if you whois the who is doctor who site you find that the BBC made it.  I did it just so I could say that sentence :D

I'll speak for the 'merkins in the audience when i say

LINKAGE???

I love the old Dr. Who, but have heard nothing about a resurected series.
So as through a glass, and darkly
The age long strife I see
Where I fought in many guises,
Many names, but always me.

There are only 10 types of people in the world , those that understand binary and those that don't.
