272nd time a charm for man on driving test
Say what?? 272 times?? That´s one stubborn man. I gave up after my 1st attempt, allthough i´m planning on taking it again this Summer. The driving is easy, but memorising all the rules and regulations always gets the best of me.
Just imagine how much money the guy spent with this...

SEOUL, South Korea - The motto for one would-be South Korean driver likely is “if at first you don’t succeed, then try, try again another 271 times."

Seo Sang-moon passed the academic part of his driver’s license examination on his 272nd attempt earlier this week.

69 years old and he finally learns to drive?! wtf.

Same here.  I got a 94 without even studying or anything, it can't be that hard to have to take it 272 times.  After just 1 or 2 you should be able to memorize the majority of the questions being asked.  Strange.

me too.

well, the academic part at least. there are two parts left, and the waiting is what's taking the time :( next part is in exactly one month, and then I can book the driver test.

but still - the guy is illiterate. I'd have put my energy into learning to read first...

I'm 32 and never bothered to learn, but then, since my entire country is smaller than some American states and most Australian territories, if it weren't for the fact our other transport systems suck eggs, there'd be no reason for a lot of people in the UK to own cars. Admittedly though, they'd still buy them, and then blame the raised Carbon Monoxide levels on smokers as usual :)

I failed the first time because my parallel parking was dreadful, but I don't think I had an academic portion to my test. The only academic test I had was to get my permit.

Bike test @ 2nd attempt
Car test @ 1st attempt

Course I had a massive amount of road experience by the time I took the car test - most of it avoiding and/or anticipating what the goddamn morons in their tin boxes were gonna do next...:mad2:

I'd be pretty happy to leave my car at home and commute into London every day by train, but it basically sucks doing that, so I don't....

If only people in America could get by without ever getting a drivers license.  More morons on the road than sane drivers I think sometimes.  The problem is, not only is mass transit non-existant in the States, a valid drivers license is primary form of identification that everyone is expected to carry.  So even if you don't have a car, you're still expected to get a license.

It's illegal to use your mobile whilst driving in the UK, you have to use a hands-free kit. It's a proven fact that someone on the phone is not concentrating on driving, several people died because of it, so I'm kinda glad the law was introduced :)

It's only a matter of time before we have something similar.  There are already areas where it's illegal, it's just that most of our transportation regulations are decided by the States themselves, not at the Federal level.  Some states' governments (like mine) are completely incompetent when it comes to actually getting anything done.

EDIT: Stupid timewarp :doubt:

It's a pity we have some bloody stupid laws about it as well.

For example, if you go out, get drunk, and stab someone, that's Murder, and involves several years in jail.

If you go out, get drunk and then hit someone with your car, that's causing Death through dangerous driving, which is about 6 months and a driving ban for a few years, which usually get's ignored anyway, and will only come to light if you commit another offence.

Theres a famous case here of where a man who killed 3 members of a family of four people through drunk driving got less of a prison sentence than someone who was picking up golf-balls on a driving range and selling them for charity. Both cases were heard by the same judge in the same court on the same day..

Wow, for once the American law makes more sense. Over here, if you kill someone while driving under the influence, you are in deep, deep ****.
