We all knoe that the GVF Tauret can kick the @$$ of any Terran fighter( including the Lokis).

There is only one Terran fighter that rocks and that is the Ares.

P.S.  The Ares does not handle like a POTATOE

Are you sane? I only ask because sometimes insane people have crossed eyes, and that might explain why you think that the Tauret rulez, since half it's shots miss any target the size of a fighter/bomber or smaller...

The Erinyes "rocks" far more than the Potato.

Potato, potato, potato!

But anyways, that all is simply my opinion and does not by any means prevent you from preferring a certain ship over another.

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. Hey! I can kill your puny potato in my loki without any missiles. and without my 36 extra gunpoints...  The ares may be cool, and powerful, but it is a potato, and it gets mashed like one...

So explain to my why everyone gives the Myrmidon such a bad rap. It's got the highest combination of guns and speed you can get, its gunpoints are close together, and it has just as many hp as a herc does. I'd take a myrmidon against an Ares or an Erinyes any day, IMHO the added agility and speed more than make up for the Erinyes extra guns or the Ares armor.
If it aint broke, break it!

I agree - the Myrm is quite good. I'd have to give it a tie with the Perseus, cause I love my maneuverability, but it's hard to beat a 6-hardpoint, high-compatability, Helios-carrying, fighter that has the looks to boot!

But the Erinyes is still my favorite.

So to get back on topic, what do you all think should be done to the Mentu? I think we all agree that it needs heavy beams, but what and where? Pe3rsonally, I don't think it should be just another cruiser, so I like the idea of it having 2 beams on bottom for hit-and-run stirkes.

2 SVas beams on the belly. Perfect for circling the enemy ship and repeatedly firing it's devastating beam weaponry with very little damage

I'd pit a few of them against a Ravana anyday. They can just circle it out of the firing cones of it's main beams.

And the Mentu is still my favourite ship. It's going to see some rather special action in my campaign

Well, The mentu has four big turrets, I figure two should be heavy beams and two should be heavy flak. The number 1 turret on the rear underside of the ship actually has a slightly forward slanted turret normal, so a beam cannon in that turret will actually have exactly the same field of fire that the two front ones have. Personally, I think that it probably makes the most sense from a realistic ship design point of view to put the two beam cannons in the 1 and 2 turrets. This gives the Mentu more or less a spherical field of fire, it can hit things anywhere except along a narrow wedge (about 10 degrees) directly in front of it and along the sides. This is more in line with the normal way the GTVA builds ships.
That said, it would be a more powerful setup to put the two big guns in the front underside 15 and 16 turrets. That way the mentu can engage anything below it with both its main guns, and has all-round anti-fighter cover from the heavy flak guns. This is probably the most effective setup, as long as mission design makes sure that the mentu is always slightly 'above' its target, otherwise it'll never get to fire at all.
If it aint broke, break it!

Well, that's easy. And can be easily explained by a tactic the captain pretty much has to use. And it's fast and manouverable, so it has the upper hand against almost anything.

I love that ship.

Oh yeah, I modified the Mentu to have 2 SVas (Turrets 15 and 16)and 1 Heavy Flak (Turret 01) turrets on the underside rotating turrets.

I also gave the Aten a SVas on the underside rotating turret (Turret02a). Makes the ship quite useful, actually

I'm also upping the speed a bit. To make it slightly faster than the Mentu. That means VERY fast, for a cruiser

It's good in swarms, or as a weakener. Jumps in, fires a few volleys from it's primary beam, jumps out before being destroyed. Then the bigger ships come in and finish off the enemy. A good tactic to be used against destroyers when you have nothing larger than a corvette on your side.

Vasudan beams are stronger??? umm you're wrong compare the most powerfull terran beam to the most powerfull Vasudan beam, that would be BFGreen compared to BVas and the BFGreen does a lot more damage.
