HAH! Seen it all now...
Currently writing this at a uni workstation, the machine next to me has a little problem:

"Keyboard error, press F4 to resume"

Y'know, I always thought people made that one up.

It's not that amusing, i mean, it's just so you can check your Keyboard connection, fix it, and press F4 to continue without having to reset...

it was usually

"error, keyboard not found, press F1 to continue"

it should've been a little more precise as in
"error, keyboard not found, check connection then press F1 to continue"

I had that problem a couple weeks ago, posted it here...
Wash: This landing's gonna get pretty interesting.
Mal: Define "interesting".
Wash: *shrug* "Oh God, oh God, we're all gonna die"?
Mal: This is the captain. We have a little problem with our entry sequence, so we may experience some slight turbulence and then... explode.

Unless you have a USB keyboard not turning off the PC while you do that is a pretty bad idea.

That's what makes the message so stupid. Most sensible people turn off the PC while they fiddle since it only takes a few seconds to post and therefore isn't worth running the risk of you shorting something while you're fiddling.

I've never, ever, ever heard of someone shorting any kind of relatively modern PC connector, most especially PS2.  The things are rather specifically designed to not short between pins, unless it's between the pins coming from the (unpowered) keyboard.

However, what the message should read is "Keyboard not found.  Plug it in, stupid" ;)

It's not much of an excuse for a website, but my stuff can be found here

You might not be able to short the PS2 connector easily but drop the connector have it touch the serial port and connect a few pins before it bounces off again and you'd be looking at a good chance of damaging something.

I've not heard of that happening either but quite frankly why take the risk?

'Runtime error in 4:18 to Stirling' sounds more likely......
