they say that fear and anger are bad because they lead to hatred. Don't they realize the importance of fear? fear is what is stopping you from going into battle without a lightsaber, and even what makes you fight back in the first place. no fear=sitting there and letting them shoot you. no anger=stress build up and high blood pressure. the Jedi contradict themselves by defending themselves.

I think that's right. My interpretation would be that Jedi are trained to the point where their self-defense is a very analytical process. They don't think, "OMFG BBQ SUM1 IZ SHOOTING AT ME!!!!111111", but, "Well, there are guys there, there, and there, so if I deflect at that angle and jump over there I will be able to occupy those guys long enough for my partner to clear a way out of here," etc.

No way. The man has BMF engraved on his lightsaber. He brings a can of whoopass with him wherever he goes. If Mace Windu had been with  Han, Luke, Leia and company during their adventure on the first Death Star, they would have walked out of that station with every single person on board dead. Then he would have killed Chewie just to show Han who's boss.
