For those of you who don't know (and I hope that's not too many), today was VE Day. Victory in Europe Day. It marks the official end of hostilities between the the British Allies and Nazi Germany.

What's that you say? You offer your respects and a moment of silence to those who gave their lives for that victory? Well, you might - but it appears our illustrious re-elected PM will not. He hasn't said one word in the press regarding VE day[edit, I'm looking into something here, gimme a minute]

To tell you the truth, I wouldn't have known the exact date myself if it wasn't for the press.  However, I do agree that the sacrifices of that generation to save the world from oppression should never be forgotten, so long as humanity carries on.

Actually, August 6 was the day that the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima.  V-J day is on August 15 and marks the official Japanese surrender.

....not much to say....a lot of bloodshed ended in Europe, which is why the day is commemorated..... so Happy VE day, I guess...

As part of Britain's resource base for that war, India suffered as a result and was just as much to benefit from victory as anyone else. Just a point since you appeared to be playing it down.
