It was probably one of the pesky .MAX files that you can't open unless you have a copy of Max installed.

You can open/view and convert max files with 3d exploration.

There is a plugin, but you still have to have Max installed.

I can't check the max installation bit, but 1.5.3 doesn't need a plugin.

Albeit... my models are provided in max format because they're incomplete anyways, and TS mauls the data when importing 3ds sometimes.

i dont seem to produce as many dead end models as most people. i did when i got started but i usually ended up basing new designs off of most of those.
