Ok, this is starting to get out of hand. Usually I can accept it because a lot of the ships actually look like a penis, but now everyone's just babbling about male genetalia in every single thread. It's seriously getting annoying, and denegrating the creative process. Now everyone has to deal with the "Giggle, it looks like a penis!", and frankly, it's immature and uncalled for.
Yes, I'm pissed because my thread just got closed because a bunch of immature people decided to have a spam fest talking about penises. Not only that, but I'm pissed that every single thread I go into, I have to scroll through one reply about the model, then ten replies about how it looks like a dick.

People, grow up. If you're that interested in penises, look in your pants, or for the few ladies amongst us, go google it or something.

This might sound stupid, but try posting wireframed or facet-ed shots of models rather than simply smoothed/shaded ones; leaves less room to the imagination.

A) Models don't look as good, and B) You shouldn't have to do that in the first place! There's virtually no room for constructive critisism anymore, because all we get is "OMFG0z0r! IT L00K5 LIKE A D1CK!!! LMFAO!!!"

Ok: Let's discuss this: I have never said your ship looked like a penis, nor did it remond me of that. The problem with the bulk of the people here is that they're too young, this includes myself. Were our members older, there would be fewer 'this looks like a penis' posts.

Neither does this matter annoy, nor concern me, but I feel sympathy for UT: He posts a ship and wants to receive some feedback, not knowing what people would tell him about the shape of that model. I wouldn't be UT now. He's got potention to model, we shouldn't discourage him with our attitude, should we?

Everyone has a different opinion about the shape of a model until the point they are told by ONE member that its shape takes after the part of the human body this thread is about.

We can't help if what a model reminds us to, but we can help to omit it from our post. I bet that one who posts a such post knows what reaction that post triggers, which, in my book, makes things even worse.

Raa was right to close that thread, and he shows sympathy to UT for offering to remove the offending posts and re-open the thread. However, I am not sure that would stop this.

Yes, I am pissed that my thread was closed, but that's not the main problem that I have with this. Browsing through the ship threads that have been posted as of late, there is at least one person who says "it looks like a penis", then the entire thread devolves into some pornographic fest. I don't honestly care who did what, it's just that every single model I or even another person posts is always bashed for looking like a penis. It's immature and unncessary, and has gotten out of hand. (Don't believe me? Look through the other threads.)

Yes, some of the models actually do look like a penis, but you know what? A penis is a very simple shape: small in the front, big at the back. Basically everything that looks "fast" has that same basic design ethos. Small in the front big in the back gives the sensation of forward movement and speed, hence why everything is shaped like that.

Actually, I think it makes the model geometry and shape much clearer, and it's easier to judge how good the actual modelbuilding is.  With smoothened models, the model often only looks like it's made out of plastecine and it's hard to judge what the actual subtleties of it are.

Other thing is, you want to judge your model - if you want constructive cirticism - from the worst angle rather than the best.  That's how you find the problems with it.

I'll agree with you to a point Aldo, but theres no reason whatsoever why people should have do 'disguise' any model that happens to be longer than it is wide simply because some people have a compensation problem.

Though, I will admit that doing a full shadowed, rendered version of your model is pointless, it won't look like that in-game (yet) so theres no point trying to 'hide' bits that will show up when people use it anyway.

I always make sure my models are clean in wireframe, flat, and smooth shaded views. If it looks like it in smooth shaded, then it 99.9% of the time it's the same way in flat shading.

I agree completely with UT.  I can't see how just about any of these ships in question could be construed to look like a penis, just as I don't look at the Sobek and see a giant *****; as I said in the locked thread, if your own "equipment" looks like that, you definitely want to see a doctor, and fast. The point, though, is that, even if you do see phallic images everywhere you look, there's absolutely no reason to post about it in every thread.  Just keep your girlish giggles to yourself, and everyone will be better off for it.

It's rather insulting to the modeller, after spending of time and effort, only to have a group of immature children point out a resemblance to their member.

Everyone needs to shut up and grow up. The penis comments are no longer funny, but there doesn't need to be some ban placed on saying a ship looks like a penis. Just ignore the comments and they'll go away.

I mean, geez, some ships really do look like a penis, and that might be helpful for the modeller to know, so that people don't crack up the first time they see the ship in game.
