Freespace 2 Card Game - In Development
I have started a Freespace 2 card game, and it can't be fully completed without your help.  I need images for some of my cards, so that while you play, you won't have a colored card with a black square near the top with the words "NO IMAGE" painted in a very ugly fashion where the picture should be.  Luckily, I have all the ship images I need, so all I need are the weapons, money, and accessory pictures.  If you want to help, just give me a PM and I will give you more detail.

Here is the finished product for all six card types!

Also, I will be releasing the cards in stages.  I will send out the Terran Deck first, then the Vasudan deck, and finally the Shivan deck.

Just for knowledge, the green cards are terran ships, the yellow cards are vasudan ships, and the red cards... you can figure that out by yourself!  The orange cards are add-on weapons, and the blue cards are non-weapon add-ons.  The purpleish cards are the cards that do not fit into any other category.

The cards are designed for college students.  All that is required is a small stack of heavy paper.  The front goes on first, and then you put the pages back in order, with the front showing up.  Flip the pages over, print the backs, and you have cool cards that you can't see through.

Also, the back of the cards are rather plain.  The GTVA Logo with the words "FREESPACE 2 (two lines) CARD GAME".  I will need a name for this card game.

Luckily, I am not going to add cargo containers.  The hp counters don't count that low.  Also, you can't just have a single Myrmidon.  It is either a light/medium/heavy fighter/bomber wing.  The wings will be mixed according to what type of wing it is.  A light fighter wing would include fast ships like the Perseus, a medium would have ships like the Myrmidon, and the heavy wings with Erineyes and the like.

I have the ship images, but nothing else.
The best images for now are screenshots of virtually every capship beam and aaa beam, plus the standard flak, fusion mortar, vasudan flux, shivan super laser, and shivan megafunk.  Plus, I need three images of increasingly larger amounts of ammunition.

I don't have the time to help, but wouldn't it be cooler to have in game shots of the ships instead of tech room images? Like a Fenris firing its beams with a nebula in the background or something

I think you could fill up the "no image" spaces without too much trouble. Get an ingame shot of a nice slashing beam and crop it into that space. Also, I'm willing to bet there's a render artist out there that could whip up a nice looking Shivan reactor for you (or at least, what they think a Shivan reactor looks like), and that could be cool too. Great work! :nod: :yes:

I used to play the Star Trek card game on occasion, and there used to be event cards.  Are you gonna have something like "Alpha 1 has transferred to your destroyer.  Destroy the enemy capital ship of your choice."?

funny thing is i started a similar card game not too long ago (well almost 4 yrs ago) based on FS2, i had made the lisitings for HP, weapons, specials, trap cards, special mission cards, SOC cards etc, but never got around to finishing it...

This game will be simpleish.  The spotlight is on the battles of the ships.  Weather you are quickly sending out many cruisers in desparation, or saving up for a supercap for a damaging assault, your objective will be to destroy the enemy ships, and invade the other player's "planet".  Eventually, one player will be unable to send out a ship to soak up some damage, and the enemy will attack the planet.  The planet's defenses have a lot of HP, but everything is a sure hit.  All ships have a chance to be missed by an attack.  Even the Sathanas has a small chance to be missed.  The game ends when one player loses all his/her planet's hp.

Battles are not completely hack and slash.  Energy and Ammunition restrictions make it so that you have to save up your big guns for more dangerous targets.  The accuracy of the weapon is very important.  Unlike projectile weapons, beams can partially hit targets.  Of 6 damage, 3 can hit and 3 can miss.  Projectile weapons are binary.  It's either a full hit or a full miss.  Beams are strong.  A lot of damage and very accurate.  The only thing stopping you from killing everyone with them is the energy and time consumption.  Many beams require you to wait a turn or two before firing again.  Energy is important, too.  If you fire all your beams, your energy is completely depleted unless your reactor was upgraded.  Fighters are hard to hit, so it is a good idea to use your AAA beams on them, as they have an increased chance of blowing a subsystem.

Critical hits, a trait I sorta picked up from one of my games, are fate deciding.  Your cargo bay could be blown, removing free space.  If you can't accomidate for the lost space, you lose some weapons or accessories.  Your fighter bay could be hit, meaning that the limited free fighter launching ability could be limited even further.

There is much more, but I don't want to spoil you.:p

There are 6 rarity levels, which are shown on the top-right.  1 is Common, 2 is Uncommon, 3 is Semi-Rare, 4 is Rare, 5 is Super Rare, and 6... is more or less one of a kind.

I still play it, and Magic as well.

STCCG never had an event that outright destroyed a ship, and I believe this game shouldn't either... it seems horribly unbalanced.

I'd be willing to help with design, both graphical and gameplay. PM me if interested.

Normally, I would accept your help.  However, I wish to do all the graphical and gameplay design myself.  It wouldn't by my card game if it was made by someone else!  Get what I mean?

Card games have 2 aspects.  Graphics and Gameplay.  If both are done by the same person, that person is the main creator of the game.

A subtle watermarked GTVA logo goes very well on the cards.

Another Person on my playtest list...

33 types of cards is a lot!  I think the Terran deck will be split into three.  Small, medium, and large.  The small deck has the advantage of having what you want pretty quickly, while the large deck has the advantage of being able to replace most things that are destroyed.

My goal is at least 50 cards for this deck, and at least 150 cards for all the races combined.
