Now I'm going to have to buy two bottles of vodka before going out for a night so that I can drink the same amount. If people can't look after their own health it should be their problem - not some kind of law. Better idea - start charging via NHS for any aid that has to be given to anyone drunk coming into a hospital. After a couple of £150 charges I'm sure those little girls who can't hold their drink will think twice before binging it. The rest of us can enjoy cheaper offers.

The answer is not to **** around with the red tape but severely punish those who break the law while drunk. The only way one can effect social change in this regard is to make it clear what's acceptable and what isn't, and put discouragingly punitive measures in for the latter.

It's not even really necessary. I can still buy almost any amount of alcohol I want at an offlisence or supermarket. This legislation - assuming it goes through - is merely an inconvenience that'll put a  hole in my pocket.

What I honestly can't stand (it's Kals ranting week.. can you tell?) is the whole touchy-feely compensation culture that means that no matter what we do, it's not our fault if we get hurt. The blame always has to lie with someone else. It's not the yobs fault that they're beating people up, it's education failing them and they shouldn't be punished for it. It's not the girls fault she's a mother at 14, it's a lack of sex education. Give her £30,000 a year to raise a family!

No, the pubs chuck out at 11pm, and places with late licences can stay open till about 2am. There's a debate at the moment on whether to allow them to stay open 24 hours a day, in an effort to deal with the binging/RSOD culture we have at the moment, and to make us more like the continental Europeans. It won't work, though - we'll just have ****faced idiots stumbling round and fighting all the time, instead of it all happening on Friday/Saturday night. They don't seem to understand it's a problem with the people, not a problem with the rules....

I think that's why their abolishing happy hours and any sort of cheap booze promotion; if they can't directly stop them drinking, they can try and make them run out of money before they need their stomach pumped.

I'm not a drinker; stopped when I was playing 5-a-sides in the uni CS league, always felt the bevvy wasn't the healthiest thing to be having.  So I don't really give a **** how much they raise the price of drink - i always got sick of the pubs that decided it was cool to play songs at several decibels above voice level, so you're only option was to try and communicate via vague gesticulations - keeping your mouth unoccupied so you can drink faster.  

It's a slefish attitude, I know; but I've seen the people stumbling out of pubs and clubs at night, trying to stay upright whilst throwing up over each others shoes, or picking fights with people at the bus stop.  And I can't say I have any sympathy if they're getting hit in the pocket for it; maybe it'll teach them to think how much it's worth to them to get pissed - £10?  £20?  £100?
