I'm just running off some copies of FS2 for a few mates, and I've come across something odd. The warble_fs2.vp file is on both the second and third discs. Why is that? Also, when copying them to an image in Nero (dragging from the file browser to the list on the left) it says that warble_fs2.vp could not be read. Now, this could be down to my knackered old discs, but as it happens to the same file on both, are they corrupted or something? Are they replaced from the data*.cab files during the install?
Any ideas would be appreciated.

probably what it is is that the warble.vp is too big for one disc, so they put half of it on one disc on the other half on the other.

I wept. Mysterious forces beyond my ken had reached into my beautiful mission and energized its pilots with inhuman bomb-firing abilities. Nah, it's the same file twice. It's ~115 megs.

I've just used the one from my install folder on the new disc images, but if anyone has any ideas then please let me know. :)

The way FS2 is stored is remarkably inefficient.

You can compress all the VPs to a RAR, put that on a disc along with some SCP and vanilla EXEs.

Then you should be able to put the movies on a second CD, possibly along with the mediaVPs (I've only tried the latter).

The only reason you need to install it is to be able to uninstall it; otherwise you can just remove the registry keys and delete the FS2 directory. Although without the installer, you'll have to manually associate FRED with files.

The reason it's on there twice is because of it's content, music.  Depending on where you are in the campaign you may have to change discs.  The VP is on both discs so that the music is always available.  You'll probably notice the same thing with a couple of the movies, that way it could play something like intro.mve without making you change to the first disc and then back to the second.

When installing FS2 it gives you the option of doing a minimum install and leaving warble_fs2.vp on the CD so that it doesn't take up space on your HD. Only problem with that is that halfway through the game you switch to CD3 so the only away to avoid constant CD swapping was for :v: to put warble on both CDs. :)

Actually intro is only on the second disk. When you play with the 3rd disk inserted you don't get an opening cutscene :D

EDIT : Bloody time warp.
