Should Sol have new ships and weapons?
Ok I thought that should the people at Sol have new ships and weapons but not any beams or anything but my campaign is about 47 years after the great war. I think they should but what ships should I use because I have about 0 modeling skills when it comes to TS

if someone who uses 3DS would tell me what data in the file to use for what [groups, materials, polys and lights] I'd make a 3DS plugin for PCS

Thanks for being willing to help, Kazan. One question- where did that comment come from? I don't see the link to the topic...

Anyways, speaking of which, I think that Sol forces should have old ships with new technology. Sol would have been the scientific hub of Terra, so all of the brightest brains would probably be there, but they wouldn't have the raw resources to create many new ships. The result, I think, would be old ship hulls retrofitted with advanced technology.

I think that Sol should have flux cannons, Lucifer-style. Not beams, per se, but something different that would be just as or more devestating.

Except going by the FS2 intro, the flux cannons are in essence beam cannons.  They can be called flux cannons, meson disintigrators, gravewave shredders, CREWS or whatever else strikes your fancy, but graphically they should be beams.  It is the logical evolution of the FS1 Lucifer flux cannon concept.

Some new ships, loads of new weaponry. Speed advances for the capships, obviously. Possibly stronger hulls, expecially for the cruisers. New ships in the corvette-size range.

Flux cannons. Not as powerful as the Lucifer's, about the strenght of something between a BGreen and a BFGreen.

Really really powerful plasma 'blob' turrets.

No flak or beams beside the flux. Anti-fighter defence relies on the smaller blob turrets.

Should Sol have new ships and weapons?
The big question is WHY would terra have new ships and weapons. With the jump node closed, they don't have anybody to fight and that removes a lot of the impetus for warships. History shows absolutely that in the absence of a visible enemy, development of weapons technology and military strength slows drastically, which is why most of the allied nations were still using WW1 era equipment at the beginning of WW2. It would seem likely to me that if Terra has much of anything its going to be REALLY REAALLY HUGE orbital defenses, but they don't really need ships because the ships have nowhere to go, so why build them?

Paranoia.

I mean, a race that blasted it's way through your systems, destroyed your ally's homeworld and bloody nearly got yours... it has to create some fear. Remember, Sol doesn't know what happened, only that the Lucifer was destroyed. For all they know, the rest of the GTA could have been destroyed by the Shivans.

So they have to develop weapons, waiting for the Shivans to reappear.

Yeah, I know you were waiting for a very nice sig, in which I was quoting some very famous scientist or philosopher... guess what?!? I wont indulge you...

Why, you ask? What, do I look like a Shivan to you?!?

All my ideas WILL, you know. Also, I'm officially declaring them my ideas, so I can sue everyone who uses them

If you lot haven't noticed, Sol has a rather vital position in TFoN. (Hint: read the stories, I know they're pretty long, but it took me forever to write them  )

It just occured to me that it's possible that Sol might actually develop Knossos-like technology, or something better, before the GTVA can build theirs. It could make for an interesting campaign...what if the GTVA got to Sol and everyone had left?

I doubt it. The GTVA only got their hands on Knossos-like technology after actually discovering the first Knossos portal. I doubt Sol could come up with it themselves.

It's a possibility, though. Since they know they can't survive alone forever, they would pour huge amounts of resources, both human and financial, to advanced subspace research. They may even have found a way to enter Inter-system tunnels from anywhere in the system.

Thats why it would make lots of sense for occupied planets in the Sol system to have REALLY big orbital defense platforms. Unless they already have technology in the works to regain contact with the rest of the galaxy, Their military doesn't need to go anywhere and becomes completely defensive in nature. Therefore propulsion systems become ineffecient and unnessecary for their primary mission. I would imagine things like arcadia stations with clusters of Mjolnir beams, long range torpedoes, loads of fighters certainly, but no big capships.

Ok I just made a new GTA bomb that is a littel more powerful and mass than the Heilos. A bomber dosent hold much of them but there strong. I called it the Hydra Bomb and Im working on a name for a GTA version of the Cyplops

It seems like the trend is for everybody to make bigger and bigger bombs which then have lower and lower load capacities. Personally, I would rather have a SMALLER bomb that does the same damage, or better yet one that locks  faster. Realistically, the bombs do enough damage for just about anything you want to do with them, to make them more effective it makes a lot more sense to improve the thrusters and guidance systems to make them smaller/faster/more accurate rather than just upping the damage. I know that i'd MUCH rather have a faster bomb than one that does more damage, and I know I'd hate it a lot more if I had to shoot down bombs that were flying twice as fast as as if they just did more damage when they hit, because if they're not moving faster they WONT. =)

Or my infamous swarming bombs.

You might just run them into at least one campaign out there... luckily a single salvo is roughly comparable to a Tsunami.

Some Sol ships I started for tha campaign I thought of:

TDCv Defender class corvette:

TDF Guardian class tactical assault fighter:

TDB Inferno class strike bomber:

TDD Majestic class fleet destroyer:

Well, and the TDGS Termite class gunship:

I also have some new weapons: a set of purple beams, the Impulse-Wave Cannon (Majestic main gun, a beam that kills everything below a Demon in a single shot, but needs five minutes to recharge), TDW-SW X Dynamic Pulse Cannon (cuts through a ship like a warm knife through butter but needs an insane amount of energy), TDM Needle (warhead interceptor missile), TDM Quake (throws your ship around like a tornado a toy plane)
