About to buy a new car to commute to college/work...

1996 SATURN SL1

or

1993 Civic DX

both 4 door, both in excellent condition, both get more or less the same gas mileage.  kills me to buy either of these cars, but work/college demand a gas-friendly car, and my wallet's screaming in pain.

Civic DX.  Cheaper to maintain, and insurance rates are typically lower for vehicles more than 10 years old.  Also, late 80s/Early 90s Civics aren't that bad IMO.  Good luck :)

Will they even insure a vehicle that old? Companies in Australia will often turn you back if a vehicle is that advanced in years. :nervous:

The Civic's an excellent car, but I don't know much about Saturns.

And I still can't believe they made the Batmobile look like a K'NEX buggy. I'm going to see that movie, but there's no way that thing can ever be the Batmobile to me.

This is the Batmobile:

Have you seen the 10 minute preview trailer? Seriously, the new Batmobile is awesome. The pictures don't really do it justice.
The Burton Batmobile is cool and sleek. The new Batmobile is bulky, powerful, armoured and insanely fast military vehicle - something I'd think a beginner superhero would use instead of some F1-car which would get stuck on the sidewalks all the time.
lol wtf

Hondas are usually pretty reliable, and I've never heard of a Saturn....

Mazda = under ford management.  I don't really see too many Mazdas on the roads these days, but the 626 was replaced by the 6, right?  It's not a terribly bad car. I'd pick it over Saturn, def.

So right. Batman does not use weapons, and he does not drive a tank. I'm still going to see the film, but those things annoyed me intensely in the trailer. At least Christian Bale will be better than George Clooney or (gods help us) Val Kilmer...

As for the original question, I've never heard of a Saturn, but I'm assuming it's some crappy Ford or other American scrapheap on wheels. Japanese or German, those are the only cars to get. Or possibly Scandinavian...

Go for the Honda, or a decent Toyota if you can find one.

Aye, Ford is indeed crappy.  But Saturn is the Japanese imitation division of GM.  I lost alot of respect I had for GM when I learned they brought Saturn to life.  Anyway, can a Japanese car compare to a Chevy Nova SS?  I think not :p.

Yes, it can. :p Toyota Supra. ;)

Also; Saturn is the budget arm of General Motors in the US. The cars are made cheaply, and boast plastic body panels, to prevent dings and the like. The motors are shared between the other crappy GM cars (Mainly the 4 cyl Ecotec engine that's in the Cavalier/Cobalt, and the Sunfire).

Saturn's recent ventures have found them sharing tech (more like buying tech) from their japanese counterparts. For example, the new Saturn SUV (who's name escapes me) is powerred by a Honda v6.
