Author Topic: Dvorak key format  (Read 2515 times)

In an attempt to make my days more in exciting, I have switched over to the Dvorak key format. You should see how long it took for me to type this. Switching keys around on a laptop isn't as much an option really.

it's letters ae arainged to allow you to type faster, as opposed to the qwerty keyboard wich was designed specificly to slow typeing down so the mechanisms of the typerwiters of the late nineteenth centurey wouldn't get fouled up.

And it failed miserably because people would still end up typing too fast for those machines to handle.
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

I typed a few times on a German keyboard, with just the Y and Z keys switched from QWERTY (and all the special characters changed). Drove me mad very quickly.

  • The GTA expects that every man will do his duty.
In case anyone is really interested in this subject, both the story that QWERTY was designed to slow typists down to minimize jamming, and the idea that the Dvorak keyboard is demonstably superior to QWERTY are untrue:
