Volition is hiring.
They´ve been hiring for ages, but maybe people didn´t noticed.
With the ammount of talent around here, thre must be a few candidates for the job, no?

If we had one of our own in the team, imagine what we could get from their old files... I wouldn´t mind getting my  hands on the cutscene levels and models.
;7

They are also working on a new game. Anyone know what it´s all about? Saint´s Row?

:nervous:
No Freespace 3 ?!? Oh, bugger...

Wildwolf worked at Volition for a while, shortly after FS2 was released. Due to the liscense being owned by Interplay, and the time that has passed it's extraordinarily unlikely that there would be any materials surviving.

I think Adam Pletcher once said they had a big cupboard full of archived 'stuff' (presumably a tonne of unlabelled cds), but no-one knew what was in it or where anything was.

Wow...a new game.  "Saint's Row." It's neat to see that Volition has kicked off their game-making again after a long while, but notice the type of games? Violence galore! :blah:

A little unsettling, I think.

You'd never seen the Punisher game of a few months or so ago?

Volitions output has gone way downhill.

Judging from the ammount of job openings they have, it´s no wonder they went downhill. You can´t make a quality product without quality staff.

Given.

But I think their poor quality productions they have made lately have more to do with THQ than anyone else.

This new game of theirs looks like a GTA ripoff.
Probably away. Contact through email.

Actually, I did hear of the Punisher.  But you're right aldo, input has gone way down.  I heard that most of the original guys are still there...what do you think is motivating them to make these types of games? I mean, space sims are their thing.

Or so we thought...:nervous:

They have to follow pop culture to stay alive.

More likely they have to follow the guys with the check books, wich in this case is THQ. And THQ only has the dollar in mind when releasing games, hence the space sim downfall.
I guess they must be trying to reap rewards from GTA´s sucess, assuming this new game is a GTA ripoff. I´ve yet to see any shots of the game to know for sure what it is about.

You know, considering how HLP is the biggest Freespace community out there, it´s odd to say the least, that Volition members don´t visit us. Maybe someone should draw their attention to this place...

How come there are never openings for writers?

Because developers need a hell of a lot more artists, designers, programmers, producers etc than writers.

I wouldn't say Volition was good at spacesims per say. But at mixing together the best elements of small genres.

What both FreeSpace and Descent had in common is mixing elements of various games and taking them in a 90 degree angle.

Summoner and Red Faction attempted to do this. In the case of Summoner mixing JRPGs and Western RPGs didn't work well. They had a great setting, but the end result was an interface and combat system that didn't quite work.

Red Faction had moments of brilliance, but a bland engine and most of the game was standard fare. It didn't survive in the face of games with more modability and graphics flare.
