Has anyone tried to fix this in FRED?

I've tried opening the mission with FRED but with no luck, although FRED2 has worked after modifying or taking out some parts of the file, unfortunately every attempt at trying to fix the file has failed.

Curious :drevil:.  The DVD version of Freespace you have, is that the only copy of Fs you have? I know this is a long shot but I think there maybe some differences, thats the only problem I can think of seeing that you have thoroughly tested it.

I'm going to reinstall Freespace, update and then retest the mission, :D I hope it works . I'll post any success ;)

EDIT: Reinstalling FS did not work :sigh:

Yes, 'tis.  It would be quite odd if that were the reason, though.

JarC, Goober5000 is right ST (Silent Threat) doesn't matter, in an attempt to verify the cause of the problem I tested FS with the expansion and then I even tested it with its default directory, after doing several clean installs the problem still arose. Somehow I think its either a Windows XP issue, the DVD version, or the Freespace2 installation. Other than these I'm out of ideas.

Umf.  I guess that settles that.  Okay, what version of Windows does everybody have?  (Both the people who got it to work and the people who didn't.)  I have Win98, and it works.

Got XP Pro and also get the same error, after pressing OK, I get a second error, this time  telling me there is likely something wrong with send-message, after pressing OK again, FS stays minimized on the taskbar, clicking the taskbar icon, FS opens normally and continues to load...eeegad my stick don't work?

so it works in XP, just keep hitting OK  to break into the debugger...oh, and btw...FRED don't complain about nothing...error check says all's cool too...ok, it turns out compatibility mode has influence here...without it I can't play at all, with it, my stick don't work...

oh...forgot...got the cd version

Hmm.

Tried running it in Win98 compatibility mode, and actually got the mission to load (!), but something seems to be wrong with the event sequence.  When Kappa and Sigma wings depart, their objectives do not become "accomplished" in my directives window.  After the last (?) wings of Vasudan fighters are destroyed and the cruiser group jumps in, nothing happens.  I cranked the time compression up to max and sat around well past the twenty minute mark, waiting for the mission continue, but there were no more events.  Left with nothing to do, I just jumped out.

Incidentally, the mission has no debriefing. :p

That was using the mission included in the original VP--I'm gonna try to load up the standalone missions Goober posted to see what happens with them.

I have the CD version and I'm patched up to 1.06, though I don't have the EAX add-on... and I can't see that making a difference. :doubt:

Got the same results with the "Test" Ross 128 mission--the event sequence just dies, and nothing happens past the eight or nine minute mark, when the cruisers arrive.

Incidentally, there's a lone Ulysses fighter way out in the distance, about 17 or 18 klicks away from the Riviera.  It's invulnerable, and shows up on the radar as a flashing blip, like a cloaked craft would... is this some remnant from the FREDing?
